1971 Lotus Elan S4 DHC. Body off restoration two years ago. Car needs nothing and can be elevated to concours quality with minimal work. I have owned the car for 1-1/2 years and, to take it to the next level, I rechromed the driver's window frame, rebuilt both electric window mechanisms, fabricated a custom tonneau cover and custom floor mats, changed the generator to an alternator (in the same housing), rebuilt carbs, converted to Dave Bean CV joint axle kit, installed the proper muffler for year and model of car, replaced the brake master cylinder, replaced two brake rotors, plus many other detailing items. Car had previously been converted to Pertronix electronic ignition, the original gas tank was replaced with an alloy unit, and engine was rebuilt. Copies of pictures from frame off restoration by previous owner can be supplied upon request.

Says manufactured 12/69 on the identity plate. Looks like a lovely car.
Cheers,
Pete.

Odd that it has S3 window frames, door cards and interior handles. Also that the instruments are not fully recessed.
Although the car appears to have come off the production line in Dec 69, the invoice date is 7 months later in 1970. There appears, from my records, to have been a good many S4s made in Dec 69. I suspect that Lotus were rushing to beat the 1 Jan 70 deadline for some relevant new legislation. They have form for this, in that the majority of the last of the Plus 2S 130s made have a VIN indicating production in Dec 73, when we know the carried on making them until Feb 74.

Also, older cam cover not consistent with this model. Not necessarily a big deal, but why?

It's still available, but I've had some interest shown. I'm asking $42,000.
