Due to lack of use, this Scotland based 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint, Big Valve, Coupe is for sale. Price is ?35.000.00.
Freshly passed MoT road certification, April 10, 2018. The car is located between Glasgow and Stirling just off the M80.
Chassis/Vin No. 7110240363E
Eng. no. ..........n25167
Mileage when acquired. 2124
Mileage now. 2446 approx.
This RHD car came off the production line at Hethel in Oct 1971, however, not registered until March 1972. Originally sold new as a kit.
Tim Wilkes kindly approved authenticity of this car.
The paint is decent however a few cracks on hood and bonnet as well as LHS rear wing (see photos). Engine runs extremely well and is strong, no accidents, genuine Lotus galvanized chassis installed in early 80?s at time of full professional restoration arranged by previous owner who, hardly drove the car, it was parked for years until we purchased it. As the Sprint chassis were black from factory, the chassis on this car was primed and painted black.
The speedo must have been changed at time of restoration as the miles are low, you will see over the last 6/7 years of our ownership, we did very few miles, hence putting up for sale.
When we got the car we installed a new dash, new head liner, new tyres, 2 new rotoflex doughnuts (only 2 as it has Spyder drive shafts) as well as completing a full service. Powder coated the wheels to original black, painted the bumpers back to original gold, fitted trim rings, installed Spyder tach electronic kit then, polished and detailed it.
This car has passed MOT?s each year of our ownership.
This Sprint was comprehensively restored in the early 80?s by a Lotus technician in Edinburgh, arranged by previous owner.
Some key components of this car;
Electronic ignition.
Spyder Design electronic tach (recent)
Full Stainless exhaust with polished headers.
Aeroquip brake hoses.
Spyder drive shafts.
Alternator upgrade.
Full repaint in Cranival Red.
Transmission refurbished.
Complete engine rebuild done by QED, with VJ5 cams, ported and polished as well as balanced combustion chambers.
Tufride and balanced crankshaft, blueprinted, baffled oil sump. A lovely engine with hardly any miles on it!
No accidents.
Any questions please do not hesitate to ask, the car is ready to go and, available for viewing upon request. Any viewing will be arranged by a, Mr. William Ferguson, who is on title for this car albeit we both share ownership, Mr. Ferguson has full approval to show and sell this car. I will manage all Elan.net questions and offer Mr. Ferguson?s contact info pin request to view car. We hope this car gods to a good home, hence offered on Elan.net, if if does not sell in a few weeks it will go on eBay?
This is not a scam.

My Sprint Coupe is number: 7109220348E, built the month before yours! It's been in America for over 30 years, but it's a RHD model.

Steve,
I came to Canada from Scotland quite a few years ago, I go back at least twice a year, I wanted a car to drive when back home, owning a few Lotus cars here and loving my Elan?s, I was able to convince my long time mate in Scotland (who is a Lancia man) we should get an Elan and, I happened to know this one was for sale, so we purchased it.
But, unfortunately we did not use it near as much as expected.

Alasdair,
Your Sprint looks really nice and it?s pleasing that Tim Wilkes and Andy Graham have given support for its provenance. Thank you for offering it here first,it?s the wrong time for me as I?m still reeling from remodelling costs to my house. I?m known for modifying cars, but I do secretly have a wish to own a nice original car. Hopefully there is somebody else who follows Elan.net who will be in the position to give your car the home it deserves.

Mr. Thompson,
Thanks for your comments, I posted the car on this site first assuming there may be someone who would be interested, I am not sure what to make of the posts, I am considering removing my for sale post and just going to eBay or other venue.
We think the price is fair and, the car is sound, genuine Sprint, giving Elan.net first dibs may have been a mistake?
I took a break from this great site for a number of years due to off topic comments, arguments etc., may just do so again, shame really.
Thanks again.
Cheers.

I have cleaned up the mess. Please remember your preferences are just your preferences. They are not rules for everyone else to follow. If you have concerns with a post, flag it with a report and I will review.
I?m sorry Alasdair your for sale ad was caught up with such BS. It is a really great car and I hope you are able to sell it to another lotus fan.

Hi all,
I have known Alasdair for about forty years (boy do I feel old when I say that! ) He was one of the first people who supported me when I thought about buying my first Lotus Elan forty years ago, and I can vouch for him. Alasdair is a standup guy and his cars are always very well looked after, and maintained in outstanding condition.
