'66 pre-airflow project

I bought this car in spring with the idea of doing a mechanical restoration and leaving the body as is. But in the months since it arrived, I've adjusted the passenger door and purchased a set of keys. I have two other needy vintage cars, a 5-year-old, and little time to play in the garage. So this one should go.

It's a '66 FHC (3223552) that I bought from the estate of SCCA driver Bud Grocki in Massachusetts. He bought the car new, and raced it extensively in the Solo II class, culminating in winning the '73 New England Division Solo II Championship and placing third in the national championship that year. The car comes with lots of racing and other documentation and memorabilia, including time sheets, photographs, multiple trophies and cups, dash plaques from Watkins Glen and other tracks, Grocki's racing jackets and a speeding ticket.

Bud Grocki... I completed against him (he always won) and rode with him once as he demonstrated his driving style on a Solo II course - sideways, windows up to keep the tire smoke and flying rubber bits out of the car. Good luck with the sale, it will be an interesting project for someone.

your asking price is certainly fair market value, but you'd do much better selling by advertising on Ebay, Craigslist, Autotraderclassic, BaT, or other venues. Most members of this forum already have a Lotus and they are usually cheap-skates (speaking for myself of course)

Thanks. I'm a cheapskate myself. I should put it on ebay, but I'm not a big fan of the process of selling there. I have had good luck on BAT. Most likely, it will just move farther and farther back in the garage. Other projects keep cutting in line, most recently a MG TD I picked up local on Craigslist.

No longer for sale.

The market has spoken (at least the market on this site). I've had a couple of close calls, but no deal. So last weekend, I pushed the car to the front of the garage and started digging in. Project time.

Good news so far. After a day playing with the wiring, I got power to the coil and starer. She now fires up with the key, albeit from an auxiliary fuel tank. Good compression, and engine appears healthy.

My goal is get it running and driving and leave the body and interior alone. Look for a project post soon and a list of parts in the wanted section.
