I'm reluctantly selling my 1974 Elan 2 + 2 130/5 after having it since 1987. The car was rebuilt at that time but is now in need of a major overhaul. It runs has an MOT and has original chassis, engine and gearbox. I no longer have the time to devote to it and feel it should go to someone who can give it a complete overhaul. Bodywork is pretty rough and chassis needs replacing. Interior original but rough. Synchromesh going on 2nd gear. Engine has good oil pressure. Luminition electronic ignition fitted.
I'm based in Cheshire. PM me for further details.

Its a fact of life few people honour their word or deal with one person at a time. I had the same. I went to see the car, said that I would have it, chap went on holiday. Telephoned him on his return only to be told Kent sports cars had spoken to him while he was on holiday and had done a cash transfer into his account without even seeing the car, and was on his way to pick it up. I think he will have been miffed as they stuck over 10k on it. Dont know what to suggest.

Saw the ad too late to do this, I think the right thing to do would have been to tell the seller it was worth ?9k rather than rush to buy it at half that and see a long time owner lose a lot of money.

I have mentioned to Phil (the seller) that the engine is worth ?5k alone.....
I would have been straight with the seller........I would probably have paid starting at about ?6500.....
just depending on how dead the chassis was and the paint..........
I was informed the chassis need replacing and the body repainting.......so figured that that would be a good place to start......

C`mon Gareth, no way is the engine worth ?5k, less than half that. I know some people decry ebay but any auction produces a sale that, on that day, is the value. He should have put in on ebay, maybe got your ?6,500, but he didn`t, and the buyer benefited. Good luck to them.

where have you been hiding.......the Ford brigade are buying these cars left right and centre......
buy a +2 for about ?5k...strip the engine and box (sound familiar?)......stick it in your escort or Cortina....call it a Lotus......
I will give you the full story when I see you.......could be a while...but trust me I wont forget.....
its the fact the buyer 'came from the back'.......we can all push to the front......walk over people......but when youre in a community you expect some form of moral conduct...
simple
cheers

This is about the ?4.5k car at the top of the posts is it, not the ?5k to a dealer then add ?10k?
Although someone did PM about 20mins after it was put up and then another about an hour later I would have thought first at the door with cash would buy it? I have had people say they will have something before and then never appear so although a PM may put a rough order of interest money in the hand gets it I would say.
I think it may have been a low price but if the owner was happy who is to argue?
Sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick.

Am I the only one who is a little confused here? How can a car be offered here on Monday at ?4500, sold to a dealer for ?5000 who then sticks ?10k on the price and sells it for ?15000 all in just 2 days? Or have I missed something?
Not sure who the thief comment is directed at either. This is a difficult area, at the heart of it is willing seller willing buyer and if both are happy what really is the problem? If the original owner now feels hard done by should he perhaps have enquired here what we thought with regards to price before offering it? I'm sure we've all benefited from bargain parts etc in the past, so to call someone a thief over it seems a little excessive to me.
Maybe we can get the full story and maybe this will change mine and others view of the matter?
