My Lotus Elan is for sale. Have had 9 years of fun, but now time to move on.
Have done loads of work on the car (see below);
Suspension and brakes:
? NEW Tony Thompson adjustable rear dampers
? NEW Tony Thompson sliding spline rear axles (no need for dodgy rotoflexes)
? NEW SPAX adjustable front dampers
? NEW Rubber bushes throughout
? NEW Tubular front wishbones
? NEW Front and Rear wheel bearings
? NEW Front and Rear Discs (front drilled and grooved)
? NEW Flexible Brake pipes
? NEWLotocones
Most of the suspension parts have also been powder coated in black.
Engine:
? Rebuilt long stroke 711M engine block (<5000 miles ago) with:
o NEWbearings throughout
o NEWstandard size pistons
o NEWtiming chain
o NEWVernier timing sprockets
o NEWwater pump
o NEWHigh pressure, high volume oil pump
o Crank, flywheel, pulley dynamically balanced
o Pistons and conrods matched
o NEWARP fasteners
? Big Valve head with correct markings (have swapped the cam cover but will include the original)
? Refaced flywheel
? NEWclutch
? NEWTriple row radiator
? Improved fan
? NEW water pipes
? NEW Braided clutch hose
? Rebuilt carburettors
? NEW exhaust manifold
? Stainless exhaust
? Wasted spark ignition using megasquirt ECU (conventional distributor still in place and can be recommissioned)
H High Torque pre-engaged starter motor
Gearbox
Semi close ratio
Beautiful action (rifle bolt) and no untoward noise in any gears (filled with Readline racing gearlube)
Differential
Quiet, no untoward sounds
Interior
? Tidy with perfect original seats (only a slight pull on one seat seam). This interior is very unmolested with an excellent patina. A real timewarp
NEW Spyder rear seatbelt conversion with three-point road legal harnesses for the kids
? Gauges all work including the clock and ambient temperature gauge, both notoriously unreliable and the latter a bit of a ?hens teeth? object!
? Most electrics work apart from the front accessory fogs lights
? Original turnlock radio
? ?hidden? modern CD player in the boot controlled by remote
? Door arm rests could do with some reupholstering (have some new ones if I can find them!)
Exterior
This lotus has had a vinyl roof fitted in the past. The fitter was very skilled as it is beautifully finished and gives the car a very ?70s style. There is a gold metal flake roof under the vinyl should you want to restore the car to its former glory
Paintwork looks stunning from 10 ft but there is some micro blistering in places
Chromework is good for its age apart from the rear bumper which could do with a re-chrome
Rebuilt headlamp vacuum pod
Original chassis (I know this is unusual in a lotus of this age, but this chassis is in V good condition, I can only assume that the car was always garaged). I have checked all the usual rot spots (front turrets and cross-member etc) when I replaced the suspension and found no significant corrosion. I also rust proofed those areas where there was exposed metal.
