I have a Elan Sprint convertible, August 1971. I would like to know the original position of the bonnet realese lever. Is it on tha dashboard, or under?

many thanks,

My release (october 72 Sprint) is on the dash but I believe early Sprints were under the dash.

Umberto,

I have a 1971 Elan S4 SE. The bonnet release is under the dash. It's a rather flimsy affair however, so I would like to re-mount it in the dash. Also, Dave Bean sells (makes?) much better bonnet catches than came from Lotus. With their design, it's impossible for the catches to hook on the back side.

My '72 Sprint (Jan, '72 build) has the bonnet release under the dash. Federal car.

Also under the dash to left of the steering wheel for my early S4 FHC (Federal). I removed the entire system as it was a struggle to pull and it never released the latches cleanly. Replaced it with the Dave Bean recessed hood pins. Neat and simple to operate. Bit pricey but excellent hardware. You need to measure at least twice before cutting in your hood!

For a July 1971 Sprint in UK it was on the dashboard, so for yours built a month later it should be the same.

I believe that it was only the first few Sprints made that had the release under the dash, probably because they were S4's upgraded to Sprint spec.
