Lotus Elan

Elantrickbits

PostPost by: SCElan » Sat Feb 17, 2024 4:56 pm

Hi Guys - been an Elan owner now for 30 years have three other Loti etc..

My Sprint is nearing completion of nut and bolt restoration which has taken a few years.

I ordered the CV Joint Drive Shafts from Elantrickbits on the 23rd Jan this year and have heard diddly squat from them despite a couple of emails.

Anyone had any recent contact or a delivery from them?

Paid £1000 + via paypal so not overly worried but still not great comms.

Hi Simon,
I bought CVDS from Col in Dec and delivered to my Hotel in Sydney no problems.
The big holiday season in Aussie is Jan and first 2 weeks in Feb Summer for them.
He tends to wait for when the CVDS are ready to Ship and not too much "ping pong" with Emails.

In my experience, Col goes above and beyond.
I would have no fear.

Thanks guys for the info

We send out close to 10,000 consignments/month. If they dont get there next day we often get ripped to shreds on line. I'm not used to 'radio silence'.

The car needs stripes, new tyres and the drive shafts to complete.

Been at it since 2016 a bit longer wont hurt.

Cheers

Just thinking ...
Assuming one does buy Elantrikbits CV's, when replacement CV joints or replacement CV gaitors are needed, will UK supplied GKN CV parts fit?...Or will it be necessary to order replacement bits from Elantrikbits in Australia?

Now I can answer my own question...
From the Elantrickbits website:-
'The CV joint units utilized in elantrikbits conversions are proprietary GKN Lobro OEM parts which are available worldwide in the unlikely event that spares will be required'.

So having read the above on their website i guess they are not lightened or altered by Elantrikbits in any way...?

To be honest..I just don't know!
I have always said a big No, i will stick to keeping my car in the original way that Lotus intended with Rotoflex joints, But you never know I may change my mind like you seem to have done! :D

Bonsoir Alanr,
Yes i have bought them it must be something to do with "old age".
I think i will fit them in March.
The thing that is different is the adapters are in steel and ligthened/sculptured + grease nipples.

Well Alan perhaps getting older in years gives one the right of passage to change one's mind and previous way of thinking!
Generally though I do like to keep the cars that i own in the way that they left the factory preserving their originality and the way that they drove back in the day.
The problem is last year i fitted a Type9 5speed gearbox and it has transformed the driving of my car so much that maybe my previously stubborn way of thinking regarding originality needs perhaps to be a bit more flexible!
The issue is though that modifying these cars does seem to be a slippery slope.....

It will be good to hear what your thoughts are after you have fitted the Elantrikbits CV's.
