K engine number match

PostPost by: itsricht » Mon Jul 31, 2023 5:20 am

Hi Trying to check if my engine number match. The number on the block is K23002 but on the registration document its 423002. Is this some sort of typo on the registration document? If so can I have it changed?
Thanks for any help.

I believe K prefix stands for Standard Stromberg engine fitted to a domestic 69 S4 Elan.
If this ties up with your car then obviously it’s a typo error at DVLA.
Before doing anything I suggest you check with Lotus Archives on what engine your car was supplied with.

K type engines were Standard tune, with Strombergs, for the domestic market. They were used from Dec 1968 to Mar 1971 in Series 4 Elans.

Most Elans fitted with K type engines in the 23### series were A Type, Standard FHC S4s or C Standard DHC S4s. They were relatively unpopular compared to SE versions. 94 A type and 85 C Types were produced.
