This morning in the rush hour traffic I spotted a matt dark green Evoque and a matt black BMW, Lotus were obviously forty years too early with the idea.
I wonder if, during the product life of the Elan, Lotus ever considered replacing the 1500 pre-cross flow block with the 1600 cross flow?

The Sprint flyer used at the 1970 Motor Show mentions the intention to have the following variants:
Sprint 355 - Fitted with a 3.55 final drive ratio for 'effortless long distance touring in excess of 110 mph with maximum speed of 125 mph'
Sprint 377 - Fitted with a 3.77 final drive ratio 'for the best combination of high touring speed and rapid acceleration'
Sprint 399 - Fitted with a 3.99 final drive ration for 'very rapid acceleration but top speed curtailed to 115 mph by rev limitation'
My assumption is that 'Sprint 412' project would therefore have either a 4.12 final drive ratio (unlikely?) or a 5 speed (ZF) gearbox.

Thank you again, Richard.
Look at those performance figures! No wonder they called it Sprint! Imagine 'cruising' on the autobahn with that 4.12 FD!
