HI,
Amused to see that according to this website in the UK since 2001 the number of DHC Sprints has actually gone up from 124 to 134 while the number of FHC Sprints has dropped from 64 to 56. I hope owners are not hacking the roofs off their cars because they want a convertible? Reminds me of a comment I heard about MGBs with rubber bumpers (fenders) becoming more valuable than those with chrome bumpers as so many had been converted over to metal bumpers so 'original' later cars were becoming rare!...

Of course some Elans are being changed from Fixed head to Drop head. It may even be cheaper than selling, and then buying a DHC.
The parts suppliers provlde all the kit necessary along with instructions and and advice on how to do it.
Interestingly, someone recently was changing one back to FHC

Some of the reasons could be fresh imports or UK registrations are being registered correctly, where as some originally registered cars are just noted as 'Elan' or 'Elan S4' and not the body style detail. It did surprise me how much Lotus cars move around the world to different countries.

I love the following extract from Ross & Robinshaw, I often use it to raise a few hackles regarding type 36 and type 45.
It's the final paragraph..... pull your own copy from the shelf and have a read!
Regards
Alan (owner of non factory type 45 conversion)

Ross and Robinshaw certainly knew their stuff, but you can't believe everything you read Alan
