Hello,
This Lotus Elan was sold to me as a 1968. Through looking at the available table on this website for identification it appears as if this car may be a 1966. It is VIN 45/6460, with engine #: LP6989. Additionally, the title show a VIN of: AK601600. Any help in determining the true year and model of thois Lotus Elan would be helpful. Thanks, Ralph

Hello Ralph
Welcome to the Forum where you will find an answer to any and everything about Lotus Elans, and often more than one answer to any one question !
Is your Elan a S3 or a S4, both produced during 1968 ? my S3 unit number 6765 was one of the last was built in around May 68.

Andy, of Lotus Cars replied to my inquiry as to the year. It is indeed a 1966, not a 1968 as the title reflects, according to him. I will contact the previous owner in regards to the title errors. I am still curious as the the model type?
Thanks to all who have responded,
Ralph

But Argo, what about the VIN on the title of AK 601600. That doesn't sound right at all.
On another subject, do you have a Jo Marquart designed car? I do too.
Roger '67 Elan S3-SS 45-7380, also in Florida

Paul, your car was invoiced by the factory on 7th March 1967. The S4 was announced a year later in March 1968 and the first unit was 7895. The first road test of a S4 that I can find was in January 1969.

Roger,
Thanks for your post. I will be contacting the previous owner regarding the VIN on the title?. For 18 years I owned the ex-Jim Downing three time IMSA GTP Camel Light Championship ARGO/Mazda. What a wonderful race car. It took us to 8 Historic GTP Endurance Championship during my tenure with the car. I wish I still had that car.
How about yourself, what ARGO do you have?
Thanks,
Ralph

Thanks Tim
A case of not reading what you have written - I should have said that my S3's unit number was 7765 and not 6765, it was first registered in May 1968.
