The Last Time.....

PostPost by: mark030358 » Mon Aug 05, 2013 8:53 pm

... MUR 76H was on the road was sometime in 1982, when she was only twelve years old.

Well its 2013, some 31 years later and sometime this month she will be back again. In some ways very sad as there is a bit of a story behind why she was laid up.

I removed the tax disc from the windscreen today, prior to getting it re-installed.

Can't wait :)

You've got me beaten by 10 years, mines got a Feb 1992 tax disc in it. I won't get to replace it with another one but will be interesting to see which side they stick the "equivalent" stickers here...

Some photo's would be good to see.

Mark,

She looks very shiny having been off the road for so long.

You beat me - ROY was last Taxed in 1984 and back on the road last year. I see the Tax ran out in Jan 1982 so could even have been 1981.

I can top that. My '71 model Sprint coupe wasn't sold until 1972, had a minor bump in 1977 and hasn't been on the road since. Hopefully I can put it back on the tarmac where it belongs next year. Working hard on it now.

Was that just spit & polish TLC or did you do a major makeover?

Well, due to work and stuff a bit of slow going. However, engine startedeventually (faulty fuel pump) and the car moved, albeit not very far, under its own steam for the first time yesterday, Friday 11 October 2013. I think she looks wonderful.

Also interesting is that I think this Stromberg equiped Elan sounds far nicer than my D'ellorto Sprint. Strange but .

Cheers

Thirty five years ago I moved to Houston for work for 3 years - thought about selling my Elan but it ended up stored in a relatives garage and to this day I am very glad I did that.

cheers
Rohan.

Rohan,
I'll be keeping my Sprint and Elise. The S4 was a joint venture between me and my friend.

thanks

seeing that lovely shiny finish has made me think......
mine has been resprayed at sometime in its recent life [only had it a few months], but the finish is not great.. :? I can't afford Option 1! or anything like it.....is there any way of getting rid of the microblisters and 'shining it up' without the need for a strip and recoat?
any advice appreciated!
fred
