MA Elan Coupe???

PostPost by: jcerier » Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:59 pm

I have my heart set on an Elan coupe someday in the future. I'm just wondering if there is anyone with a coupe in eastern MA or northern RI who would be willing to let me come sit in yours? I just want to make sure that I fit - I am a hair under 6ft tall. Would love to go for a ride, but the roads are pretty yucky right now.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff

Welcome and you will not have a problem sitting in an Elan coupe or FHC. We have forum members well over your height who enjoy their Elans.

People up to about 6'3" have been in my car without any issues, and are always surprised at the amount of room. The Elan has a lot of leg room. My father in law, who is a bit over 6', used to have a coupe himself without issues.

The only issue might be original steering wheels as you have to squeeze your knees under them.

I am 6'4+", but have shrunk (from 6'6") since the S2 came into our family in 1967. I have a 36" inseam, and have no trouble with legroom, although my right leg is more bent than I would like. With the clutch at the floor, my left leg is straight out. I also have no trouble fitting under the ragtop, but my eye height is such that it's difficult to see traffic lights when waiting at an intersection. I am currently using a small steering wheel while the original awaits restoration, and it does aid the cramped feeling.

I am in the Concord MA area. I don't have a coupe, but you are welcome to sit (and ride, when the roads are reasonable) the S2 if it's convenient for you.

I love the sound of a torque wrench in the morning. Sounds like... progress.

I am 1 meter 86. I fit tight in my sprint fhc. My hairs touch the roof. I will not fit With a helmet in.

That would make your eyes water when you close the doors!

6ft 5'' and growing, with fairly knackered back, and I fit a treat and the Coupe is comfy.

Very Nice pic!
How do you explain it? May be your seat is dead and your ass touch the floor?

That was my possible idea, fitting may be a race bucket to sit low...

Height is not the only issue, width across shoulders can be a problem. I know of a couple of people, myself included, who are not comfortable in an Elan because the top of the door is always pressing into your shoulder. If not for this problem my +2 would have gone for a Coupe a long time ago.

That is why I buy Plus 2's. When you own them......"there is no compromise". :)
