...and the price seems reasonable. Why hasn't it been snapped up? Desirable S3 variant....

Totally original, they (the scrap-yard) say; yet they also say it has been re-trimmed. It has a modern steering wheel, a (too-big) modern leather gear-lever boot and faded-to-brown black leather seats. New chassis, wrong colour wheels and bumpers............ may be a sound car but if one says "totally original" then that's what should be on offer. imho. :D

Plus it's on e-bay Australia yet located in Wigan UK. :|

Nah don't let my link confuse you, it's listed on uk eBay.

still surprised no one has done a deal on this. Nothing terminal or un-retrievable about the mods.

Maybe it just looks good to me because of our healthy $A at present

I think the price has come down by a few thousand since it was first advertised.

Hi all,
I think that the reason that it's still for sale is that a scrapyard is selling it... 8)

Knowing something of the advertiser/owner I believe the reason it has not sold it will be over priced for it's condition. I understand he has owned the car for a while. Yes it did start off at a considerably higher price. He tried to sell me some poor quality parts for another marque as in very good condition and more expensive than I could buy them new from the manufacturer and his description was optomistic to say the least. He also became abusive in his e-mails so much so that I ended up reporting him to e-bay . I've not seen the car but I would expect to be offering about the 12k mark from recent experience of chasing up an elan for myself. A fair amount of money and work to put it back to original condition.

..I seem to recall from a very long and interesting (to say the least) thread on another forum that the vendors have, ahem, a bit of 'form' shall we say

Leaving aside the vendor's "form", for a moment, providing it is mechanically sound it doesn't seem incredibly expensive to me looking at the current crop of adverts for Elans. Apart from the gold wheels and bumpers, which aren't going to break the bank to repaint silver, it looks nice. The interior looks a bit scruffy but its not a concourse car, neither does it look to have been over-restored with lots of shiny new repro bits nor messed around with by devotees of CV driveshafts, 5-speed gearboxes, overbored engines etc. (nothing wrong with any of those things, I've done all of that too over the years, but they do detract from originality). Admittedly we can't see the chassis or suspension, we don't know when the doughnuts were last changed etc but if the 64K miles is genuine then that's a low-mileage car. Judging it for what it appears to be, is ?16k really too expensive? Mk2 minis are now being advertised at around ?15 fully restored. In terms of value for money a good useable Elan has to be worth that much. Be interesting to for someone nearby to actually go and have a look at it. Just my 2ps worth.

Hi all, it looks pretty clean - the carbs look nice and tidy as is the engine bay. looks as if it has an electric fan. I'm confused by the orange coloured pipe or cable which appears to run from the vacuum point on #1 cylinder round the back of the engine - why not direct to the vacuum pods? Also on my E&F reg S3 there are the ventilation grilles behind the front doors; this doesn't have them - were they introduced later on? The doors look to hang well (better than I've ever managed!). The interior door handle is at a strange angle and it seems there's a water leak down the inside of the passenger door.

Considering its ?17k which is below the insurance value of my tattier S3, where does that leave the value of mine? Sadly nowhere near Wigan to go and have a look (and the wife wants me to sell one of ours anyway!!)

This is an early pre-air flow model without the rear vents.
Looks ok but in need of some good TLC to the seats and armrest as far I can see. The door handles dont look original as the seat belts. If this as an pre-air flow and hence one of the early models it should have a Martson radiator and not the one fitted.
I cannot see a control, box therefore presume it has an alternator. It's normally the RH door that does fit properly but can't really see this from the pic.
This hydraulic system is new to me and there could be a mod in place to activate the pods ...gear gator is wrong also steering wheel is wrong and horn push is off an elise.

The rest looks ok to me.
