Well boys and girls after many months and a variety of elans I have arrived at the one to keep the morgans company in the garage.
Engine compression, timing and carbs set up earlier today and it is now on the road. I believe a few off here may have viewed it before I bought it on the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic games.

Is LOTUS written on the cam cover in such a way it can be read from the front of the car or it can be read from the cockpit side

yep I have read somewhere the cam covers showing Lotus from the front were made for display obvious reasons for a car show lotus was attending. These casting are pretty rare from what I understood...

It's a very poor casting looking as though it was taken from a pattern that had been repaired as well. Some areas rough and some areas being quite smooth. I may look to replace it in the future ( and hang this one on the wall if it is rare). Annoying thing is I sold one a few years ago that I had had in the garage for 20 plus years.
Too pricey on e-bay I'll have to look elsewhere.

bought unfinished zetec elan instead - I'm happy too.

No Dave, It was a private sale from Leicester. A case of being in the right place at the right time for once unlike the previous elan which was a nightmare.
It was on e-bay and it was timed to finish an hour before the official opening of the Olympic Games and only one other person bid.
Enjoy the work on the elan. I started working back on one of the unfinished morgans today so I'm hoping that the S4 remains reliable.
