You had to enter through the front door of Goodwood House (the wife liked that) and walk through the house to a large marquee at the back. The sale catalogue admited two but we made the mistake of not realising the catalogue also included two entry tickets to the Festival of Speed so I could have saved the ?78 we paid for our tickets.

I don't know what it is. The PO said "I think it's a VW colour" and gave me a tin of paint that didn't match. I've been touching up with "Swift Red" which is a Fiat colour (manufacturer code 129), but that was just from an unscientific rummage through what was on the rack at Halfords. It is a pretty good match though.

I saw the ones on the Lotus stand too
and at last discovered what the mysterious bobbins in the bottom of the door shell are for,
looks like very forward thinking by lotus as they would only be useable for the pull handle as seen here if the door was untrimmed ie 26R

I've found the tin and it's VW LP3G "Flash Red" - very similar but from memory I think a little bit darker.

I was having trouble matching 20 yeare old Cirrus White and discovered a firm in Ipswich who scanned the bonnet with a camera type machine and then mixed an exact match. Not much dearer than a can from Halfords and an exact match.

A colour matched large aerosol was ?16.20.
They did say they only require a small item of original bodywork to scan to get the correct colour (not easy on the Elan - I took them the bonnet having explained that the petrol filler cap is not painted and also does not have a painted flap covering it !!). The only slight problem was the scanner seems to be at the Kings Lynn branch most of the time and I had to wait for it to return to Ipswich.
Not sure how many firms offer this service in other areas

Paddy,
Have you seen this week?s Autocar? In an article by Colin Goodwin on the cars in the car parks there is a picture of your car with the following caption;
?Lovely little Elan. It looks like a toy next to modern cars ? especially the relatively vast Audi R8 a few rows down. Its owner will have had a fantastic drive down, all at under the legal limit. My choice of all these cars.
Did anyone else see that the gold ex Ian Walker 26R appeared to have been covered in clear vinyl wrap?

Paddys car in the car park was my favourite as well that's why I took photos, I didn't did post other photos as it showed cars number plate not sure if that would have upset cars owner. Its got me back out in garage working on the sprint my paint looks flat compared to Paddys. Perhaps I should get it wrapped in clear.

You know you have a good car when your wife hates it.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the tip; I'm so sad I went straight out and bought a copy.
