This topic is dedicated to the salesmen out there (please do take it personal if you are a saleman). We have all had these.. when you shake you head and just wonder... WHAT did they just say! You know, when you first think they are joking, then you realise they are serious. No one here would try this on a Lotus owner .... right
Should be fun!

Ok I will start
The sales man that sold me my Subaru 2005 STI.
Being an older buyer of an STI, he must have thought I had different expectations for the car.
?Sir, It get excellent fuel economy, just take it easy when the turbo kicks on?
The turbo is like a frigin light switch. I just laughed inside and told him, ?I?m not buying this thing for fuel economy; I?m buying for the 300BHP??. Then I asked him if he could recommend a extra 200BHP tuning package. He was stuck for words!
He refused to give me a test drive... I wanted to go alone

Oh Yeah.... it gets 18 mpg, which compared to Ferrari Enzo.... is excellent

I don't have story I can tell this minute, but I can tell you that none of the Subaru dealers in Southern California would give test drives in the STI back then. Apparently they had some bad experiences. As far as 200 added HP. Try these guys http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=tp&Category_Code=SUB
This one gives you 500 BHP (GT3076R Turbo Kit )
I've used them before fo projects. They're well connected with Garrett my former employer for 15 years.

"There are no white ones coming to Australia, buy our black one" (there was a white one in bonded store which became mine through a different dealer)

I testdrove a BMW 330i, E90 or whatever it is called. It had run flat tyres and Sports Suspension. The ride was so stiff, it was unbelievable. The car would tramline and it felt just horrible. Really disappointing for a BMW. I mentioned it to the salesman and said the set-up is just wrong and he told me: Well Sir, it's a very sporty car, maybe you are not used to it.
Righto!

I was test-driving a used Mercedes 450 SLC and when I tried taking my hands off the wheel (at about 30mph) it drifted to the left. 'Ah, yes,' said the salesman, 'Mercedes design that feature into the car so that you gradually come to the nearside of the road if you nod off whilst driving.'
Although I didn't check with him, I assume that Mercedes models sold in markets other than the UK are designed to gradually drift to the right for the same reason. Obvious really.

I got the same sort of treatment when I went to buy my Infinity coupe. I wanted the 6-speed, Brembo brake package, under body aero kit, no sunroof (added lightness) and 18 inch wheels. It must be something about having grey hair.
But it was nothing like the "bums rush" I got a couple of years ago, when I went to a Nissan dealer to see about trading the coupe in on a GTR.

In 2005 I wanted to test drive an STI. the dealer ensisted on a $10,000. check before hand. My grey hair I guess. I did end up with a WRX tho, The only rig that I got speeding tickets in, it was supposed to be the wifes car tho - she didn't like it, couldn't handle it, traded it off for a forester. I ended up buying a Toyota Tundra TRD pickup truck.I can pack a cmper and go like sh*t.

Test drove a Toyota GTS in 1984. They opened the showroom doors to push it out so I could drive it. Something buzzed at every rpm and road speed, the front, back, left & right all buzzed. I was shocked having heard of Toyota quality and said something to the salesman riding with me. He gave me an odd look and said something to the affect of "What noise?". Wow, bold faced lie.

I had a bit of a laugh with one of our BMW sales guys, who to be fair was ok.. We had decided we were going to PX the car for another new Z4. When he came back from driving our very low miles and perfectly clean car he said something like. ... Wow! its a while since I have driven one of the new (er) cars and what a difference they have made to the suspension!! When we got it, it was exactly the same as the previous car and was so hard on the run-flats and rock hard springs it almost shook ones fillings out.
I said nothing as I had removed the run-flats and fitted softer rear springs during repairing one of the many rear spring breakages the car suffered during our ownership. All with Mrs B driving it I might add. I never told them either..
We ended up trading it in for the Porsche Boxster... What a difference! It is way better then the Z4 and it's got two boots...
