If I had the money this would be the one I would want. The estate has several other Lotus projects.
Here is the link...did not meet reserve.

It can't be very often that I can offer some assistance, since so many of these deals seem to happen East Coast or across the pond. I live just over an hour from the car in question, so if anyone needs "boots on the ground" to look something over, I could probably be persuaded to help out. I agree that with my very modified Elan, having a very pure and original car as well would be great.
Let me know if you start a serious discussion with the estate.
PDX, how did you learn about other project cars? Care to share?

Just stunning, but sold quickly.
There are a lot of folks who bang on saying 'get out and use the car, that's what they're for'. But thankfully, some don't, and the result can be a very rare time warp find like this.
I hope that whoever has bought it finds LotusElan.net and shows us more!

Where do you see that it sold quickly? Maybe I missed something? Looked like it got 27 bids up the $25,800, but didn't meet the reserve price. I presume it's still available and maybe they'll try again, or take a different route. If there's something to indicate it sold, let me know. And agreed that the new owner should end up here.

This was pointed out to me last week - the terms were that you had to beat the highest bid submitted to the estate ( effectively the reserve) -
At the moment the good S1's are coming on the market here as the long term owners are aging out of the hobby ( voluntarily or in this case involuntarily ). And they are not available long , I last one we got had a list of alternate buyers over 10 deep should we not complete the transaction including a car magazine editor.

Hi,
When I happened upon the auction I e-mailed the seller. At the time they had two other cars on e-bay. The highly modified S1 race car and an Esprit. As has been noted the estate did contact local clubs and had come up with a reserve based on those conversations. I do not know if the car has sold and though I corresponded with the seller about the spares that they had I have not heard back.
Let me know if anyone else has found out what has transpired.
Cheers

Hi,
I have been working with the seller through the auction and since and was, today, able to conclude the deal for both Elans, a rolling chassis and a whole bunch of new and used spares.
I'm really happy to have secured what I think will be a nice little 64 S1, although I'm not too sure what I'll do with the 65 race car!
I look forward to drawing on the collective knowledge as I bring this car back from its long sleep.

Ian,
Glad to hear someone has made a deal for the lot as that holds the best chance of making everything good!
The S1 should be nice when brought back too life. As for the race car it will take lots of work and if you wish it to stay a race car you will need to decide what first, then work toward that goal. You will find loads of help and knowledge in this group. We have one we autocross regularly.
Best of luck and were are you located?

Hi,
I'm not sure if the race car will be bought back as a race car or a road car. I have no interest in racing it, but it all depends on what I find once I get into it. It will obviously need the wheel arches bringing back to spec!
I'm in Southern California.
