The mind boggles at what could happen in privacy when the garage doors are closed

The picture of the BRM cam cover is what you in the trade call "a teaser" isn't it Pete?
So when's the rest of the story to be disclosed?

Cheers
John

 Got me banged to rights, Guv.

I don't know the full story yet. As Mark said, first registered in Scotland, which is a part of England, near Carlisle. First owner was a quack, kept it for a year and did 500 miles. He had a new Elan every year (maybe one of those kit builder-upper guys?). Bought from him by my previous owner's Father and then passed to PO about ten years ago. Looks like the recorded mileage of 59197 is correct, judging by the MOTs. Was originally White, now "Carmine Red".
I'm led to believe that it was sold new by Mike Spence (hence the engine plate) but I'm not sure how much, if any, BRM parts sit beneath the cam cover. It's got L1 vernier cams, rebuilt head, Quaife straight-cut gears (20 miles use only), silly diff ratio. All new (5 years ago!) adjustable TT suspension, brakes, ally tank, electric pump, dynamo. Fitted with oil cooler but no stat (as per BRM!).
The car was being built up for Sprints and Hill-Climbs before the PO moved to the other side of the world, leaving it in the garage about 5 years ago. Core plugs popped out during the recent bad winter  not sure where that leaves things.

I have a stamped-up service book (Jos Randles, Stoke) and I'll try to put together more history when I get chance to go through the file; and the car.

Thanks a lot.
Sounds like you've inherited a very interesting car that's going to be a load of fun.
The vernier cam sprockets are an indication that some care has been taken with that engine.
Hope the popped core plugs saved the day

Cheers
