OK TO clear the air --I have been contacted by the moderator and BIGVALVE HEAD as to my limiting the responses on this subject , I only have asked for solid proof of these cars and not non substantiated recollections ,according to many my car cannot exist --bolt on wHeels LHD etc etc but there it sits --numbers scrawled in black chalk R 2 33 on the rear fire wall -CASC race history --[and not for sale] ----I have been accused of everything from a fraud to starting the Chicago fire here ---if I discouraged any or all from replying Im sorry BUT l am not going to with draw from the facts I have seen is building the car and comparing it to my chums stock 64 Elan ----As I stated the release of the fact that Lotus has no Idea what cars went where has created much interest of late ----as to what cars were sold out the back door or as knock downs or skunk house built cars the comparing of lists and numbers must be a daunting and impossible job -----but feel free to expound as you wish -please --e

Obviously, I've missed most of the backstory to this contretemps, but since you aren't trying to sell the car (and thus possibly unintentionally defraud anyone) then what the hell does it matter. Call it anything you want, and have fun.

This isn't a world peace summit conference guys!!!!

Lotus never used grease pencil, they used very thick trunnion oil and a dipped-in finger.

Yes, I agree. If you are not going to sell it, then it really is not an issue.

If you do put it up for sale, then it is an issue to the person that is buying it.

I worked extensivly on a 26R during college. It was owned by a guy in Buffalo named Harold Oday. I was in College in Buffalo 1970-1974. About 1980 I stopped by Harolds house and he offered to sell the car to me for $5000. I had no money and did not buy it. Boy, am I sorry today. This was an ex Jackie Oliver car. Harold had bought it from Lotus East. At the same time he gave me the lightweight hardtop and windows. I sold the hard top to a guy in Pittsburgh PA...another mistake.

Anyways, I spent a lot of time under that car, in tha car and working on that car. Most of what I remember is that the doors were so thin that you could easily see light through them. They were about 1/2 the thickness of my doors on my S2 I had at the time. So while I know there are other ways to tell, if your door panels are very thin, then you have a real one.

I hadn't come across this before, though I assume the 26R aficionados amongst us have.

It appears to be a detailed press release from Lotus with a lot of factory information, technical specs etc on the introduction of the 26R.
