Why restore an Elan

Frank, I get it. You want a quiet machine. I feel EXACTLY the same way. I want a vintage experience from my Lotus in every way but noise :mrgreen: (actually, I also really value a quiet, supple ride, so I work at that, too).

But I don't get it. What is that "pre-muffler" you're installing? Brand, model, technology used?? Inquiring minds (and sensitive ears) want to know :wink:

sorry guys, but I don't get it..... !! the noise is the thing!! :lol:
out for a trip yesterday, and on the way home, on a nice straight stretch, a newish mercedes indicated for me to pass, which I did with gusto......
on arriving home, a neighbour pulled up in his newish [just aquired, so didn't recognise] mercedes....
" I waved you past because I wanted to hear that great noise again!" 8)

It's just a question of degrees, I guess. One man's beautiful noise might be just too much of a good thing for the next fellow :wink:

It is a question of degree. I like my noise, but slightly less with a 5th gear. Anyone ever go into neutral at 70 mph? No engine noise but plenty of wind noise.

My Plus 2 came with a version of that same inline muffler. It fits quite well below the diff. My car is very quiet when standing behind. However, ALL my noise, which is considerable, is induction as it does not have the original airbox and filter in the nose anymore. Really makes me wonder why they bothered with the extra silencer :roll:

I love the sound except on the highway where it can get to you after a while.
