I understand that the writer of that review is a Mr Stephen Serio, a Lotus salesman. His article shows a lack of understanding of what the Lotus Elan was and still is --- a sportscar that gave enthusiasts what they wanted, and set standards for others to follow. An objective reviewer would have understood this, and written his article without the puerile attempts at witticism and classical allusion peppering that article. Mr Serio is no LJK Setright. He should confine himself to selling Lotus cars, and avoid writing such drivel.

Who care about that !?!
Really , I don't.
Plus ; I am not in the process to make money on mine.
The Elan didn't change thru the years .
I have read so many on it that this ll not change anything .
More ; If a few are going further from Elan's , I think that ll be a good thing .
There are not enougth left for all !
Happy new year 2011 , to all of you ,
Christian.

What a twit! I ran my 1st lotus Elan for 4 years and never touched it apart from the normal service bits (inc' rotoflexes) I could service it during my lunch hour using one of our side lifts as a ramp, and how i wish I had it still. :?

How would he explain that!

I completely agree with JL, and Christian. Best just Ignored.

AB...

Oh... and Happy New Year to all.... :)

This magazine is known to be anti British car and very pro Alfa Romeo.

Obviously you cannot compare quality & build standards of cars 30 years apart any car manufactured 30 years later no matter who the manufacturer is better designed, built & more reliable he should go & compare it with a sprite or midget of the same era most of them were s--t compared to the elan. Part of the reliability came from lack of maintenance in the second hand market but at least most things can be fixed easily & cheaply as with time all the permanent fixes to common problems are available. Afriend with an S4 Esprit turbo with an intermittent ABS problem would not agree 2 years & neither he (an F1 engine builder) or various lotus specialists have been able to find it. Ceejay you are correct but forget the BIT also given a bumpy B road my elan is quicker & rides better than my Griffith 500

Ferry Porsche built his cars to last? Hasn't he heard about rust? How well did the pre-galvanised cars really last compared with Elans?

Don't waste your time writing here, send Steven a note or call and express your opinion to him.

Stephen Serio, Aston Martin of New England/Lotus Motorsports Inc, 781-547-5959, MA; [email protected]; http://www.astonmartin-lotus.com

He was at British car day with 3 of his astons and the new Elvora. He is a car dealer/salesman and earns a living on comission. If nothing sells he writes a bit, seems to have a few facts wrong. Whats an 1967 S3 Sprint? Here we go again...

Steve Serio has owned the Aston Martin and Lotus dealership in the Boston for a very long time. He mentions 1991 but he has been involved with Lotus for quite a bit longer than that. I guess you always have to take the dealer's view with a grain of salt. However Steve has kept the Lotus door open in my area for years when the factory had hardly anything for him to sell. He has managed to do that by being a savvy businessman which can put some buyers off. Steve is the guy who has to balance client outrage against factory denial in warranty matters. He is also the guy who has to bring in enough to keep the lights on, pay the mechanics and parts people, etc. I thank Steve for keeping the door open. I had his boys mount and balance new tires and new wheel for my Elite, EB1771, and they were great, wanting to know everything about the car. I hate to bring this up but pricing would suggest that the general market for classic cars does favor the early Porsches. Even junk 356s held together by paint fetch at least $100,000 US.

Another one from Steve

Steve must have been let down a few times by and Elan.

Anyway for this story he swallowed the Ebay trash tail hook line and sinker. One of the member bought this Elan and told the real story.
