Popping on overrun

Let me warn you getting the new downpipe to seal against the exhaust manifold is a major hassle. Don't believe the manual were it tells you to just apply firegum there because that's a farce. I finally had to cutoff the poorly formed conical flare of the downpipe and weld on one I machined up. It had a 1-3/16" inside radius to match the male ball end of the manifold. The female piece had to made 1/8" thick so the two-piece clamp would not just smash it out of round before the connection was tight.

If there is only a single manufacturing source for the new downpipes, you're in for some trouble. The quality is poor.

Here's another tip. The cast iron two-piece clamp is directional. There is an arrow cast onto them that points up. You have to look very carefully to see it though.

If it's the just muffler then you've most likely not found the source of the popping yet. Sorry! I'll stop trying to help now.

I've also got the popping problem, and have a slight headache from reading the amazingly complex replies from the forum's technical guru Keith, which made me more scared of the Webers than I already am.

But.... I'll see, because I actually enjoy the popping... Specially, like last summer:
In a tunnel, downhill, coming up behind a horrible yellow 500SLK with softtop on in the summer. Pulled out into the overtaking lane, got a bit in front of him and lifted my foot sharply off the pedal inducing a wonderful three-four pops/bangs. Down into 3rd and accelerated away briskly...

very satisfying.

If you're really into that effect why not add a fuel injector nozzle and a spark plug to the tailpipe. Then you shoot out a ten foot flame! Just kidding!

Used to have the same trouble on an old triumph spitfire...
Popping on overun made it sound like a TVR and impressed the hell out of the birds!

very very true.
The same with my old GT6 when I put on HS6's..... lovely car, I'd miss it were it not for the fact that 6'3 in a GT6 really doesn't go, which is why I progressed to a TR4A and finally got what I wanted, the lovely +2S130....
