Superb find.

Did you notice at around 60% in, they are working on a couple of +2's a blue and red one, but it looks like they are still in primer with the colour only applied under or near the trim being fitted. Does this mean they put them together first then masked them up and painted them afterwards! Bizarre way of doing it if that's the case.

Cheers

It looks like the edges had been painted (eg prior to fitting the pods) but I suspect you are correct. I assume they didn't want to scratch the paintwork when assembling them?

Shame this Pathe archive footage is so expensive, they have some real gems....not sure why it needs to be

I enjoyed the Link.
Good to see the "great" Lotus Cars being made
Thanks very much for posting it.
It also reminded me of me of my earlier Drawing Board days as well.

Ta very much :)

My pleasure, I love archive film in general but if it also features Lotus then it's just a bonus ........ it's like time travel but without the police box and leggy companion

Marvellous John, I have just spent a very pleasant 1/2 hour looking at a load more footage from the sixties on motor sport.

A great find I agree. What is really curious is that the only cars I noticed partially top coated are +2s, the Elans and Europas all appear to be completely painted before final assembly.

Is the Europa at about 70% still in primer? I'm not sure

Perhaps Colin was trying to make a better job of the +2's, he was trying to move up market a bit with them?
