Hi Ed

Welcome back, I missed you and your indirect humor that others don't or can't understand. I don't understand it either. Give me a call if you want, I am around to 4:30, I'll be going over to my sisters for birthday dinner so I may miss out.

Gary

David Hughes and TT are the only bits I can pick out of Ed's possible code, doesn't mean anything to me though so I'm probably barking up the wrong tree with Neo :?

My wife is the CIO of the DE Dept. of Corrections (Jail). Knowing just a little bit about what goes on 'inside' I'd rather pay for my medical bills, eat cat food and shovel five feet of snow off of my long driveway. :)

Must be one of those 'white collar' jails for Congressmen and Wall Street bankers. :)

Hi All / Ed..
I too suggest taking the fine and NOT doing the time (Unless used to it and hard as coffin tacks!) I sell, Install, commission and service the machinery in the woodworking shops in all the SPS (Scottish) prisons from Low Cat', no walls etc for 'low risk' prisoners to max security jails. Trust me! You do not want to be there. I doubt if you country's establishments will be all that different but can't of course talk from experience.

Some of the prisoners, drug free only, (Positive test and you are out + Random tests!) do get paid, but very low amounts. This is to introduce them to a 'work regime'. They get up. Go to work. Have lunch. Go back to work and go 'home' all for peanuts which they are allowed to spend on sweeties and phone cards (the major currency) etc. They seldom have any money left, week on week and cannot send it out. They can bank it though as far as I know. Those not drug free and the downright dangerous! are not given the chance to 'work' (they must earn it) so can't earn and can't spend. So they steal, threaten, bully and assault. Protection is a major industry among lots of others. Some prisoners have hopeful futures, the rest must just be kept off the streets or they will kill / rob / etc and generally cause havoc.

Food is very basic and lots of chips with everything. Don't serve salads or good healthy food etc or they will riot (and wont eat it!) it has to be to their liking or you have major trouble. Drugs are freely available to all. If you are not an addict when convicted there is more that 80% chance you will be when you leave prison.

Cells are basic but now at least (in most jails) livable in. Usually two or three up.. and SMALL!

Here's a few stats for you.. + 90% of the prison population can't read or write and only 4% of the jobs available at any one time are suitable for the ex con when they get out. :? I got one 'low risk' guy a job and he let me down in less than a week!
But.. I did get a few 'contacts'.. Just in case anyone really gets up my nose!! You would be amazed at what you can get done for 100 quid or so.. And I am not talking gardening or washing your car for 3 months!!

However...rather you than me. I can go home when I have finished my work there and I am always happy to leave.

Just lightening the mood a little

Have fun..
