welll I was very excited when I discovered my car more thrilled when I got it in driving condition . To get the car to that level required complete rewiring ---complete assembly --rebuilt motor etc --all done by my self and I figured I had found a den of Lotus enthusiasts --instead all I have experienced here is unfounded- petty and vicious attacks on my car and at times my character -- it just isn't fun here any more -so it is with little regrets I bid you all good by ----ed
dont close your eyes --you will miss the crash

... Ed ,
For sure you are the only one to decide but , from my window , I was figuring myself a lot more brillant issue ...
You have made yourself a very well made caracter , often simple if rough , practical and autonom ... And everyone was waiting for your comments . I was the first . And you can't blame any of us for that .
Your skill in maintain an Elan & others are , for the "Original Bolt & Nut British Club" , like a stone in a shoe .
Speaking about your car , as I allready wrote , it has no chance to meet its "sister" and I am still not sure , that the shinest of both is the one .
They both pleased their owners , and that is the only point .
Let's give you a pause , and soon we'll some fresh or icy news from Niagara ... That's what we all want .
A bient?t ,
Christian.
PS: Ed , you sold your Elan , did you!?!

Ed,
LotusElan.net needs all the Lotus knowledge and experience it can get, and you are someone we need.
Any of us who makes more than a few posts is going to have a response back that contradicts their position. Either the responder is correct and we learn something or we know the correctness of our position and can safely ignore the comment. There is always the possibility that the subject is contentious in which case no conclusion can be reached. But the tooing and froing is nothing to get terminally upset about. Remember, these are only anonymous words and you are not face to face with these posters. So don't feel bad!
Unfortunately, we have lost a few valuable members who have felt harrassed by some negative comments, and that is a loss to the community as a whole.

Well said, David. It's very difficult to write one's thoughts in black and white. The interpretation that ome's messages give may be entirely different from what was intended, unless one is a skillful writer.

As my teacher used to say, "praise loudly, criticise privately". That's why we have PM I guess. It's all about manners and a supportive tone. Basic stuff, whether face to face or on a network such as this....

it is always sad when a long term contributor decides they have had enough for whatever the reason. Ed certainly made the forum interesting. The providence of his car was a topic that was a challenge for all sides to talk about in a calm rational manner. In the end there are no definite answers around any 26R let alone Eds but lots of very definite opinions that lead to stress on all sides and thus the heat in the discussion.
I tried to restrain my own disagreement with a lot of his engineering comments and just state my own beliefs and why I hold them. More focus on what you as an individual believe and why and less attacks om others beliefs would benefit the forum as a whole - even if it does make it a much it a duller place.
The whole climate change debate is a classic example of this where the emotion on both sides gets in the way of rational discussion and name calling (communist greenies versus right wing deniers / sceptics) dominates.
just my 2 cents worth
cheers
