Parts to take when leaving England

Hello
I am emigrating and taking my +2S with me, which I have owned since 1999.

With all the experts on this site please can I have some advice about what parts I should buy and take with me ?

I am also in need of some parts if any one has any for sale 1) Perspex wind deflector for my Webasto sunroof 2) New Tony Thompson shocks and springs, 3) inside light covers, and 4) new rocker switches for the dash board

Where are you moving to?
The supply of parts is pretty good Worldwide; once you know where to ask.

How about some simple things that could go wrong:-
Fan belt, thermostat, filler cap, brake pads (& disks?), wiper blades, engine & g/box mounts, suspension bushes, rotoflexes, all plus the necessary special nuts & bolts
A good set of A/F sockets & spanners + a good selection of UNF / UNC nuts bolts & washers especially "nylocs"

Now my crystal ball has fogged over

In that case put the car in a container & cram in as many heavy bits as possible with it:- body, chassis ,engine, gearbox etc.,etc.
But hey there are loads of our "Transatlantic cousins" on here that will assure you that there is a good supply line there.
Forget the A/F spanner bit though, that's still the standard there???
"Snap On" stuff should be cheaper there (dream on thinks me)

Welcome to the forum. Lexington is really a fine spot; we were down on vacation a couple of years ago and really loved it. Great touring roads in the area.

RD Enterprises link above is very good for parts. In addition, Dave Bean on the left coast are good. Both suppliers amaze me with what they have in inventory. Have found the supply of basic tune-up and maintenance/wearing parts within the US is actually quite good, although sometimes can take a bit longer for sourcing and shipping than you may be used to.

Biggest thing I can think of to try and source ahead of time would be any fiddly restoration bits, interior trim materials like carpet, headliner, door panels, seats, etc. eBay UK tends to have a LOT more stuff than this side of the pond, and several sellers list as only pick-up or ship in UK only, particularly on larger items. Lots of posts lately on the remarkable costs of some of these items on the Bay, but they tend to be unobtanium over here.

If you need any large parts, particularly new frame, transmission, etc. you definitely want to ship yourself, as costs are very high, have a fair degree of difficulty for non-commercial shipment to one's home, and have very high packing costs. Depending on how you are packing the car for shipment, you should have plenty of room for pretty much anything of this nature. As mentioned above, understand the Elans were originally packed for shipping in a large wooden crate affair; friend of mine picked his SE up dock side in Vancouver BC in this manner. Maybe they use containers now?

Susan continues to run the parts business, is based in the UK, and is well known for being able to source hard-to-find bits. She's very helpful and I'm sure she'll give good advice.

As I recall from my own move from London to Baltimore, a 40 foot container is only marginally more than a 20 foot container (I'm thinking a hundred or two hundred quid). Also, anything that will be directly exported is exempt from VAT, so stock up! Dan
