Some pics of 45/0013K

Thought I'd share a few pictures of my 1970 Federal S4 DHC, 0013K. It's a car I painted for a friend in 1996, then it languished in my brother's garage while the owner thought about the mechanical upgrades he wanted my brother to perform. In the meantime the owner gets married and moves to Florida, and the car sits on blocks for 12 years, in several pieces. Owner calls me in summer '08, asks me to make an offer, he accepted. Paint is remarkably fresh-looking, although it got scratched/nicked over the years.

Fast forward to today - new brake and clutch master cylinders, new slave cylinder, rebuilt calipers, new hydraulic hoses, fuel tank clean out and sealing, fuel pump and carbs overhaul, radiator flush/check, valve adjustment, new ball joints, trunion kits, & tie rod ends. Lots of cleaning up & repainting under the hood (bonnet). Getting ready to reinstall the dash, after much rewiring & wiring repair. Still need to sort through the interior and order new tires. Not a concours-level restoration, more of a driver quality.

This is great therapy, I'm loving every minute of the "restoration". Back in the '70's I worked for the St. Louis Lotus dealer (Checkpoint America) and am sort of living a dream I had at the time of owning a Lotus (I was into a 1600 Mercury Capri 1600 with dual Webers at the time). I hope to have it on the road by springtime.

I am enjoying very much the posts of members here, such a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

This should look familiar to an Elan owner :-)

After valve adjustment. Anyone else have their chassis number
written in marker on the front of the cylinder head?

Looking good already, I am sure you will have a lovely Elan by the time you are done.
