Hmmm, ground straps are supposed to keep your car grounded, not airborne. :-)

Don't forget to drain the gearbox! Otherwise when you lift the front of the engine & pull it from the splines of the transmision shaft, lots of gearbox oil will pour out onto the floor.

=============

Some looooong time ago I fitted a ring in the concrete roof of my garage for lifting the engine out and I have s simple hoist with triple pulleys at each end. It't tricky though as you have to tilt the engine sideways at one stage to clear obstructions (can't recall what off the cuff), and then upwards with the engine at about 70 degrees to the horizontal.

As my lift-ring is fixed I have to push the car back out of the way with the engine hauled as high as I can get it so that the back end of the gearbox clears the front fibreglass of the bonnet. And of course making sure that the swinging engine doesn't smash the windscreen. All rather hair raising.

here we go with the rebuild---removing the remnants of the old crank shaft needle bearing was a fiddley job --it was harder than a working girls heart --replaced it with a bushing ---ed

Twincamman,
You say you had problems getting the roller bearing out of the crank, I`ve used very succesfully a brass or steel rod turned down to the dia. of the g/box input shaft, 3/4 filled the bearing with grease and then driven the shaft into the bearing,( hammer??), It hydraulics the bearing out.
Regards John.
The lines fall unto me in pleasant places, yea I have a goodly heritage.

In the years to come you might regret not fitting the water-pump conversion.

Hi Bill ---I considered a cartridge pump but the 600 bucks is just a little steep right now --perhaps next time it fails ----but the bell housing was a priority this time ---ed

no progress today-- tomorrow the water pump rear seal and ancillaries are going on then the short block comes home and in ---the heat and humidity here is more conducive to turning the air conditioning down to about 40 degrees F and drinking Canadian while taping up hockey sticks - :roll: --ed
