Lotus Elan Shapecraft

PostPost by: garyeanderson » Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:26 pm

More Shapecraft Elans photos. The first one I got off the web somewhere the last 4 were taken at Tony Thompsons shop March 2003 by Bill Gavin while we were visiting on Saturday afternoon. We were over for the Donnington weekend event and Tony was having an open house so we stopped by for a look-see. While there at Tony's we met a gentleman that had another Shapecraft that was in need of restoration, unfortunately I don't remember his name.

Ed,
You have said "I'm told" a couple of times. Who is telling you? If Shapecraft did make cars without the Shapecraft fastback, I'm sure that historians on the forum and in the wider Lotus community would like to know about it. As for them building "3 or 4" fastbacks, even I have seen more than that number over the years. Their ally fastback roof was also available for self- fit at 170GBP so I would imagine they shifted a few that way too.

Cheers,
Pete.

for those who cant see the letter.....
it reads
<I found your letter in the Archives, following the departure of the Achivist, so I am not sure if he responded? Hence I have made a search myself.

In our road car records 47 cars (between units 3376 and 4167) were modified to become 26R models. Unfortunately no customer or dealers/territories are recorded. Team probably built a similar number
from scratch, and the total is reckoned to be over 90. we have no records of their numbers or numbering system. Your car certainly look s the genuine article. I will pass you rletter etc to Classic Team Lotus who
really specialise in single seaters but may some record of the sports cars>

I think they think youre asking if its a 26r........ :(
