Pertronix number

PostPost by: 264889socal » Thu May 17, 2007 2:34 am

A friend who has a restoration shop I do some work for owes me for some minor work and has agreed to purchase a Pertronix for my S2. In looking through his catalog it is not very clear which unit is used with the 23D 41189 distributor. There is only one listing for the Elan. LU148. Is this the correct number or is there another number we should be ordering?

Thanks for your assistance.

Try here for a good list (and good prices):

I've got the LU-142A in my Elan and I really like it even though it partially failed on me last Sunday. The inner retainer on the magnet ring dropped allowing the magnets to move and a the engine to miss. I was able to put them back and use some duct tape to hold the ring together to get home. I reglued the ring and I will try a little plastic welding (hot soldering iron) to insure it doesn't do it again. My spare units are LU-142 which had a slightly different magnet location that would change the timing if I just swapped them.

Below is what Jeff at JAE had to say about the differences since the spare units I have came from him through a friend who didn't need them for his Europa Restoration.

Rob,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to get me this information. Since I have a 23D4 non vacuum advance, and have converted to negative ground, it looks like the LU-148 is the correct unit.
