Finding History On Your Elan

PostPost by: Hegg » Tue Apr 12, 2005 3:29 am

I came across someone who (if I remember right) had a Europa and had some scanned images of Lotus records with information regarding his/her vehicle.

Anyone know if I can gather information on my 50/2036 car? Just curious.

Hi,

If you are in the UK go to <a href='http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/relinfo.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/relinfo.htm</a>

Have a read and send them a fiver, with a justification letter for wanting the info.

I said to them I wanted to build a history file of my Elan, the sent me a photocopy of all the changes that they had received. i.e. change of owner, engine, colour all that sort of thing.

I used the info to contact previous owners to find out what had happened to my car over the years. It's nice to know that when I complete my rebuild, hopefully very soon, that previous owners would like to see it again sometimes after a lot of years.

Hope this helps,

Doug

I obtained my car from the original owner that bought it back in 1970, so I have a little bit of history from him. I'm not in the UK, so I don't know if they'd even have much history on it, but thought I'd try anyway.

Thanks for the info.

I had very good luck obtaining information about my cars by contacting Mike Pomfret at:

[email protected]

Mike worked for Lotus, is the nicest guy in the world, and is happy to provide vehicle information free of charge.

I ditto what Frank just said, three cheers to Mike, he's given me info on numerous Elans, and while I'm at it three or four cheers to Jeff for this entire ELANATHON
