Members please see below a direct cut froma email to me from SJ Sportcars as a quote to supply me with a parts listing and a horn push retaining ring for my +2.
I'm shocked by the cost of P&P from UK to Ireland for a book and small metal ring
If you follow this link it takes you to royal mail small parcels web who say 2kg from UK to Europe for 9.94 punds !! slightly less than SJ's quote
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... aId=400393
Sales OrderFrom:S. J. SPORTSCARS LTDUNIT 1, ASH UNITSDOWN ENDLORDS MEADOW CREDITON EX17 1HN

I feel really cross that P&P should be used to elevate prices to uch an extent

Hi Peter,
I have some experience of this type of rip-off for P&P from a small number of UK suppliers posting to Ireland. Most traders in the classic car business seem to be fair and honest, so I just go elsewhere when a trader tries to screw me.

Peter,
I stopped using S J Sportscars a while ago after they seriously messed me about. I also find the owner offensive.
Ann Miller or Chrisneils are almost all you need.

If you want me to pick something up from Stomeleigh and post it on to you at not inflated rates,I'd be willing
John
P.S. the horn retaining ring? is that the three pronged spring steel thingy?

Your a star !
I would love if possible you to look for a horn retainer ( As I have not got one I don't know what it looks like !! ) but its the bit that makes th horn buton stay in the wheel so I guess the "three pronged steel thingy" sound about right !! I also need a spare wheel retaining bracket and bolt should there be one there and if anyone has a +2 parts listing also before I contact SM or CN it would be much appreciated. Bet you wished you'd never asked now !!! I hope to be there next year (with Car) but too far to travel from Vietnam this year !!
I LOVE living in Ireland but HATE the fact that some companies (SJ in particular ) seem to want to grossly inflate prices using P&P THEN they charge VAT on top of the P&P !!
I had previous argument with them (SJ) over sending a plastic chrome windscreen trim to Ireland as they wanted 50 quid P&P so I cancelled my order and CN did it for 9 quid, I know I should not have gone back to them after that but I like to give everyone at least 1 chance to redeem themselves)
We live and learn (sometimes)

Interesting. I'd bought a couple of items from SJ but vowed never to trouble them again after the man I was speaking to (the owner?) was, quite frankly, rude. Thought it was me. Anyway, as some others have said, Sue Miller is the jewel in the Lotus parts crown and gets all my business now.

I'm with you all on this one. Sue Miller is the only one I deal with nowadays. After CN and SJ gave me serious grief. Once bitten twice shy.

Paul Matty has it listed in his catalogue under the TOOL section,
CLAMP, SPARE WHEEL part number TPLA026 and is ?7.50 +VAT
Tel 01527 835656
Email [email protected]
I do not know if he has it or can get it, as I have found that just because it is in the catalogue does not mean they can get it
Hope this helps

Hi Peter,
A bit late with this, but....
I've used both SJ and Sue Miller and found them both fine.
I bought Shocks and Springs from SJ and the postage was a resonable ?40.
Got loads of things from Sue including new Miller Driveshafts and postage
was.....?40.
Found both easy to deal with, but am leaning towards Sue a sa longer
term prospect (as a supplier that is). She's very accomodating and
up front. I just seem to trust her!
Having said that, I still found teh guys at SJ helpfull.....
So too were Paul Matty. But haven't ordered from them yet.
One thing is certain. Postage will always be highish for the parts
from the UK so make sure you think hard about your order and
try and get as much as possible at one time....or share a delivery
with someone else!
Take care,
Peter

Posting abroad can be expensive.
Firstly the price you mentioned for a 2kg parcel to Ireland by royalmail is uninsured.
Also a parts manual packaged up will probably weigh more than 2kg
Once you go over 2kgs you need to use a courier or parcel force.
Parcelforce will send a parcel to Ireland for less than ?33 but again it is uninsured.
I think SJ were quoting you express delivery because these then carry insurance as standard.
The crazy thing is that once you go over 2 kgs, I believe parcelforces next weight range is 2-10kgs so you could have bought three manuals and probably not paid any more postage .

sorry to disagree here looking at Royal mail web (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... aId=400393 )
You can send Books & paperwork up to 5 KG (Which NO WAY does the parts manual weigh )and it is insured as per this quote "We will pay compensation of up to ?32 for loss or damage of items on production of a copy of the certificate of posting and proof of value. If you require extra compensation of up to ?250 or up to ?500 (depending on the country) there is an extra charge of ?1.50 per item"
Quote from their pages says
" 2kg is the maximum weight for Surface Mail items except for books and pamphlets sent via Surface Mail Small Packet/Printed Paper rate where the maximum weight is 5kg "
So as a 2KG parcel is ?9.84 from their site and again a quote "add ?0.24 for each additional 50g." even at 5 KG its only ?9.84 + ? 16.80 = ?26.64
As more evidence of the cost being far too much, Coverdale have just sent frpm the UK to Ireland a full set of carpets, + underfelt and sound deadening + 2 cans of spray glue & fixing rings and studs etc to me on a 3 day delivery service with a courier and insured ALL for a measerly ?20, a tad heavier and larger than a part list I think you'll agree !! AND NO VAT on top
To be honest its the attitude and refusal to discuss which P*****D me off more than anything else

I have been using Paul Matty for 20 years and they have always been excellent. I have used Sue Miller once, recently, and she was also very good.
