Early Elan Service Manual - now available for download

PostPost by: M100 » Fri Mar 31, 2006 5:01 pm

It's been a long while coming (nearly 2 years!) but the early Elan service manual is now available for download.

http://216.92.98.7/Elan_Type_26_Service_Manual.pdf (41.5MB file)

The early parts manual is still available from

http://lotusfaq.org/Elan/Documents/Elan ... tslist.pdf (15 MB file)

To view and print these files you will need Adobe Acrobat 5.0 as a
minimum (or another compatible pdf file viewer)

If you happen to find any indexing errors or unclear scanned areas
then let me know by email and I'll correct and repost.

As before, anyone thinking putting these files on a CD and selling on Ebay will be tracked down and a three week old kipper placed in their heater duct and a potato stuffed up their car's exhaust :-)

Free use and distribution by any Elan owners is however encouraged.

Do bears sh*t in the woods?

The answer is yes, but taken in the context of these particular versions not being available new for over 35 years, and a certain book supplier in Germany freely copying and openly supplying bound copies of CURRENT Lotus manuals for profit over many years I think I stand on slightly higher moral ground.

I'd never consider doing a similar exercise with currently available manuals such as the S1-S4 parts and service manuals which are available from Lotus dealers under the following parts numbers.

X036T0325J Elan 1962- Parts List GBP 51.45
X036T0327J Elan 62-73 Workshop Manual GBP69.24

The later manuals, while covering areas related to specific S3 and S4 design detail, have lost much information present in the early versions. The early parts book also has a considerable number of references to the supplier and part number which are completely missing in the later revisions.

(desperately trying to weigh up getting up really early for the grand prix qualifying or just getting at the normal time, obtaining my tax disc and going for the first Elan drive of the year )

Top-tastic! As I keep my manual in the garage, this will enable to look things up without going out in the rain. I've been looking for a master parts list for ages, so that issue is now also resolved. Good job, and thank you.

Someone has been really hammering my bandwidth allocation. Circa 125 downloads over the last 3 days! Hope it tails off a bit in the next few days or I might have to move it to a server with a bit more capacity.

Matt, I tend to do the reverse, i.e. keep the good manuals in the house and use copies of the relevant pages in the garage. That way when the can of oil gets caught by the inspection lamp cable its only a few laser printed pages that get knackered (not that I'd ever do that of course) :D

Yup-yup. The "good" manuals are in the house, and I've been lucky enough to come across some that have been "mishandled" in the past so have THOSE in the shop.

Seems your bandwidth usage has slowed some lately, as I just hauled the interchange PDF down with no prob. I tried a few days ago and got the "cold shoulder" from the server.

Thanks again for the effort! Greatly appreciated.
