So what does your Elan/Plus2 look like today?
Don't know where you're located but you wouldn't do that here! FHC with the windows up most of the time!!

Perhaps this should be in where did you park your Elan today...............?
Two weeks in northern Spain - 1800 miles - no problems - roof not up once.
FANTASTIC roads in all directions and food and wine to die for.

PS S4 owners don't be too jealous of the S3s looks................

PS why is your passenger door open, or is that an S4 thing..............?
I thought that you were looking for an S3 SE DHC. You are wise to get one - they are the best............

It appears that the sill strip isn't just for show. The second (great) photo above gives the impression that it has a function...i.e. keeping spray below it and off the doors. Is that correct? They are missing from my S3 / SE and have always thought them as superfluous, but I might need to rethink.
Also, do S4 sill strips stand more proud of the body profile?

Dunno - Mark took the picture... I haven't looked at it too closely, but I do recall my old S3 dhc having a drivers door that even Mick Miller couldn't make fit.
I wanted an S3 because I had one years ago. I really wanted that white S3 SE dhc that came up for sale a couple of years ago, but I think it was more to do with a trip down memory lane than 'practicality' - you owned one new in '66 didn't you?

Richard - the sill strips don't really function as a stopper for thrown up "cow" of which there is an abundance in backwoods Spain. They have a small effect but I think that it the shape of the body that stops most of it. They do look nice though.
Mazza - Yes I had a new one in '66. I thought that I had ordered an S2 but the S3 turned up, and very pleased was I. SAR 370 D. I cannot trace it now and wonder what has happened to it. It must have been a very early S3 - June '66.

The husband of the PO of CYG told me that he had tried to adjust out the sticking-out bit of the passenger door. When I told him they were all like that from the factory he looked a bit sick...he had spent 2 days on it!
My S4 door isn't any better, and I don't think that the S3 is either!
That looks like a nice early S3 dhc, D, with the badges on the front wings. How close to the first (5702, June '66) is it?

I must be the luckiest guy for door fit. My S3 came from the factory in June of 1966. and the doors are original with no repairs. So the factory did make good fitting doors at one time. I have heard many stories why some doors did not fit as well, but nothing seems consistent. Does that mean the door problems started after June of 66?
Since this is what my Elan looks like today, I don't think I have hijacked the thread.
