Hi All,

Well I'm probably due for a flogging as I expect I will be accused of over restoring, its everyones choice so who cares.

Reason for the post, on the white S4 KMA909G, I see the bonnet release pull is through the dash panel, I thought it should be underneath to the right.

Can anyone put me right on this please as I would hate to under restore.

Thanks, back to the workshop

Dave
Regards

Dave

I've not seen one coming through the dash on the S4 before, Dave, and my '69 handbook shows it underneath the dash, just to the right of the steering column, which is where it's located on my '70 S4.

Maybe an early S4 location?

I would also guess, bearing in mind how close your car is to mine it should be under the dash.

Thanks both before,

There was a bracket in with my carrier bags full of "parts" that could only fit the bonnet release as an under dash fitment secures by 4 small screws on the reverse of the dash. No room right of park brake warning so has to be to the left.

So as a purist, awaiting my deserved flogging, for just trying to keep the origional standard alive, then thats where it will be.

Nothing wrong with perfect restoration, provided it's only to the origional specification, as a tribute to what it should be. (so alternative chassis are not acceptable).

So what about cars restored in the 80's when a Lotus chassis was not available?

And what about a galvanised chassis? They were never galvanised as OE.

As I may have said earlier .........Shakey ground, my friend, Shakey ground.

Then of course if you use a new bodyshell is that the handle or the head gone? My car has a Spyder stressed skin chassis but the original shell ...it's all a bit of a minefield me old fruit

Was there a handbrake warning light on the dash and someone put the bonnet pull there? I have heard of this change before.

"Web definitions

* Alternative spelling of shaky

en.wiktionary.org/wiki/shakey

* ?That Sgt. is so shakey, you can give him a glass of milk, and two minutes later you?ll have a milkshake.? For that boss that is so afraid to make a decision, -or- so scared of reprecussions of said decision, he or she will do everything by the book, or worse?nothing.

I like it with an E ........and since I'm really, rearly, rarelery, rarely wrong.....

PS. I'm too much of a gentleman to pick up on bad spelling I do know how to spell original for example

PPS Spyder chassis design is better and stronger than Lotus originals

PPPS Hurrah! This thread is working ..........it's now above freezing outside. We've done it, climate change via the medium of a web forum. (I know it's weather not climate but that didn't work as well, so go with me on it OK   )

It's not on webers as it a s4 SE so on the correct carbs

The first few S4s came with Webers. Mine is 7988, not far from the start of S4 production.

Of course, with the state of Lotus production being as it was, there may have been some early chassis numbers with Strombergs running around, and some Webers may have sneaked in later on.

Do any others have early S4s with Strombergs, or are there Weber cars later than 7988?
