Nice one, Pete. Ken Eady or John Webb driving? I believe John was working for Len Street at the time. I was looking after a 23 BRM in those days so I was always stuck in the pits without the time to take photos. Nice to see some old'uns.

Clark Lance sent me some period photos of his S2 Elan that he has been racing for several years. The first photo is great and show the initial flairs and period roll bar that looks like someone thought about it a bit.
the next two are of the remaking of the flairs, they look like they are covering the same wheels so this may be an appearance upgrade.
The next photos is on the track, and looks like you are right there. well it did until I resized it to 30% of its original to make it fit better.

I found some photos of the flairs that I did on the back of my S3 DHC. This body was hit in the back and a S4 tails section had been grafted on, the back was mostly attached with "Marglass" and a little fiberglass cloth. I was going to leave the back alone but I just couldn't look at the half round arch of the S3 blended into the square arch of the S4 rear section.
These flairs were eyeballed on the shape. Posterboard and masking tape were used to form up the new arches. I didn't get them "spot on" but it was a learning experiance and now I can put the originals back on someday, maybe.
looks like a stack of 4 or 5 dashboards in the convertable storage tray.

I think this belongs here with those nifty sill extensions and sunroof. I guess it must have been a toss up, repair the sunroof opening or make it a type 45.
The rest of the Type 36 to type 45 story is over at

p.s. - the best thing about the site is the shapecraft/S2 background used
I guess 26/0250 really needs to be added just for the exhaust exiting through the left wing.

I was reading the discussion on Spax shocks and was wondering what a set of new Koni's were going for today. So I googled ("koni shocks" elan) and came up with a hit. Not on the price but on some flairs I hadn't seen before.

I like the "cut look", saves weight too.
Pete posted a link to this Elan is Racing topic, I think it belongs here too.

How about these on a Sprint for sale at a well-known Bromsgrove specialist? It's described as having a few paintwork blemishes, and does appear to have blistered significantly around the wheelarches.

I'll add my before and after pics to the thread. The arches had been cut to accomodate 6 inch Revolutions. Subsequent to input from this forum, I reverted to standard S2 arches and 5 inch Panasports and would agree that they look much better. Since the pics, the rear end has settled a bit and they look even better.
