It is the same software Jag-Lovers software uses at https://forums.jag-lovers.com/.

We are moving to a 4-tier ranking system called trust levels with the new software platform. Currently, the 4 tiers are called New, Basic, Member, and Regular. I find these names - blah.
So, I am calling on the creative genesis of this forum to create a naming structure that will replace the 1st to 5th gear structure.
Some of the naming structures I came up with include:
Driving Experience
None of these options seemed to fit.
So, how would you edit these? Do you have a suggested 4-tier name structure?

I think "New", "New Member", "New Driver" is simplest and clearest for the first group, out of which folks presumably pass quickly with a little participation.
After that, maybe mileage-based monikers?
10k
100k
Million-miler
or something simple like:
Novice/Apprentice
Seasoned
Professional
or, more car-based:
Pit Crew
Driver
Crew Chief
or, my favorites :
Newbie
Bodger
Know-It-All
Old Fart

My preference would be to stay with the gear system. but obviously just 4 gears. Some members will have to drop down a gear, but the grading system is 4 of the same thing, not 4 subjectively different things. Plus I like seeing the gear symbols next to my name.

I agree with continuing the Gear System. It works well and is relatable to all involved.
However I do like the idea of the "coveted" fifth gear. That should remain for those few that do the most in contributing to the community.

I too would be content to retain the gear system.

How are the gears assigned anyway, are they on number of (starting) posts, number of replies, or a members total posts?
Ian
The new platform measures the level of interactivity on the forum over time.
- Number of days visited
- Number of topics read
- Number of posts read
- Number of topics replied to
- Number of Likes given
- Number of Likes received
- Not being flagged by other members
The lower levels can be earned. The highest level must be maintained by activity.

Jeff, does that mean that you have to create an algorythm that amalgamates or somehow computes the 4 levels?
I used 'algorythm' as it seems to be the current buzzword but I have no idea how one would assimilated and grade the results.

Already built into the system. A lot of this is to reduce spam caused by bad actors. The more active you are working with others, higher trust levels you can obtain.
Trust Level 0 or Newbie cannot do the following:
- Send personal messages to other users
- Flag posts
- Post more than 1 image
- Post any attachments
- Post hyperlinks in a post
- Have actual links in the ‘about me’ field of their profile
- Mention more than 2 users in a post
- Post more than 3 topics
- Post more than 10 replies
- Edit their own posts after more than 24 hours
- Initial first 2 posts are manually reviewed
Trust Level 1 - can do the following - This is what the majority of current members were migrated over to.
- All new user restrictions are removed
- Send PMs
- Upload images and attachments if enabled
- Edit wiki posts
- Flag posts
- Mute other users
Trust Level 2 - can do the following
- Use the “Invite others to this topic” button for one-click onboarding of new users to participate in topics
- Daily like, edit, and flag limits increased by 1.5×
- Ignore other users
- Edit their own posts for up to 30 days after posting
Trust Level 3 - can do the following
- Recategorize and rename topics
- Access a secure category only visible to users at trust level 3 and higher
- TL3 spam flags cast on TL0 user posts immediately hide the post
- TL3 flags cast on TL0 user posts in sufficient diversity will auto-silence the user and hide all their posts
- Make their own posts wiki (that is, editable by any TL1+ users)
- Daily like, edit, and flag limits increased by 2×
This is a different ranking system than the current one. Today, we only count if you created a post. This does not indicate the post added any value just that the member created a post. The new ranking system is designed to reward members who help others. The more helpful, the higher your rankings.
