Rob, I wasn't going to ask...........I have enough work-in-progress myself!
The subject of the sill stripes came up a week ago or so. My S3 had them (May '67) as did many others in '67, but very rare to see them still on a car. We must get a few re-made!
Graham Arnold's famous black S3 had them as well.....

They used a +2.
The passenger door fell off.

Going back to this thread purpose (Rindt?s Lotus Elan). I found this from Classic Cars magazine Sept 2000:
"Stewart remembers that from the start Jochen used to joke with him about Lotus fragility: 'We used to drive to Clermont Ferrand from Geneva in convoy because he didn't trust his Elan. He didn't think he would ever get there. I had my Ford Zodiac, and
I'll never forget coming around a comer and seeing the door fall off his Elan on Nina's side. We had to pick it up. Nina gave up and came with us.'
First of all ,let?s say Mr. Stewart was not precisely a Lotus Elan fan as he described it at its day "Little sod of a car" , anyway a fun story...at least poor Nina did not suffered injuries

I spoke with Peter in late February & he confirmed that he still owned the car, no idea where the car is physically.

Been digging and asking about. Rindt ran his own team 69 in the F2 races at Hockenhiem. So to be wearing GLTL overalls at Hockenhiem and Chapman's presence, it has to be the F1 race in August 70. Taking a look at the shadow lengths, the sun angle would also lead to this conclusion. So why is Rindt getting an old Elan in August 70? Afterall, Chapman had got around to giving him new Loti to race by then.

I'd buy a set...but then I'd need an S3 to fit them to.

Judging from the cuffs and the Nomex-colored turtleneck underneath, I'd guess that's a driving suit rather than a jacket. Anyone else? If you were showing up to drive a Lotus, but wearing a BMW jacket, I'd think Colin might be a bit miffed. If you're showing up to drive your works BMW, but arriving in a Lotus, well then, bad form for BMW not providing you a proper pedestrian ride, eh?

Clarko,
I hope that you have asked Harry's permission to use this photo on the web. It is always preferable to post a link if you are not the copyright owner; I would not want you, or this forum, to get into trouble.
Generally copyright lasts around 50 years but it is an absolute minefield. I'm sailing close to the wind with my current avatar!
Cheers,
Pete.

I am reseraching info about Rindt?s personal Elan S4
I found a photo of Colin Chapman giving him the keys of a brand new Lotus Elan S4
Plate is NVG 853H
Does anyone know the right colour of it and if it survives?
clarko
Some progress for you. I have found Jochen's S4 in a factory sales book entry! He was the first owner of 0003F, a European spec (LHD) S4 SE in Royal Blue, which would have had silver bumpers. The sales date is 25 May 1970, engine number C21###
