Why? as far as I understand the legislation as long as the vehicle is SORNED and is on private land then it does not need any tax/insurance/MOT.

Although I have edited #4 to take out the bracketed reference to driving.
AFAIK
If it is YOUR private land it is probably OK, but if it is public land it is not.
The phrase "around the block" usually means public roads.
If it is neighbours' private land(s) the situation is ambiguous, but I expect you will need 3rd party insurance at minimum.
SORN = Statutory OFF-ROAD notification.
