Surely you recognise a 26R radiator when you see one.

Ed -

Good to see the car back together again, maybe a couple of drives before winter shows up next month for you guys in the grate white north -

Speaking of books:

The Chris Harvey book on the elite, elan and europa has period pictures of the John Miles / Willment car (An S2 I think) . I would point to the pictures on page 202 and 203 with a clear shot of engine bay.

CAR March 1965 road test for the SAMRT racing elan also shows engine bay picture - SMART's efforts may predate the factory effort ( i think) definitely not an S2 car though and would have raced before Lotus homologated the factory hardtop.

Please check out the pictures before any flameing commences ....

Ed ,
I am pretty sure that you are right too .
Not every 26R get these parts .
But , just have a good look to this detail of a rare personnal color document from 66':

Image

On this Elan (definitly NOT a 26R ) , you are able to see an alloy swirlpot and rad ... Yes the shiny bit behind the light blue cover... That to tell you my suggestion wasn't too bad .
Christian.
Btw , to every specialists : You 've got the color of the car , the number , the year , can you tell me the rest !?!

wellll ok --I'm going by what bean engineering tells me --that the 90 degree rad hose is early s2 ----the picture of the aluminium rad shows a definite upward point ----and may be I was a little poed at this dudes constant negativity to all his posts ----if the factory cant say how many were built or where they went and how they were equipped how can he ??? -----knock offs were an added cost option according to the fia papers I saw --and race car equipment has a notoriously short life --and parts are changed at the whim of the owner so really I cant see any hard and fast rule as to what car had what changed or when ---so who knows ----and I don't care ----thanks for the encouragement ---now I have to see why the car has a box full of neutrals --- :( -ed

I simply provided you with period links to show that 26R's had aluminum rads and swirl pots, you responded by being semi insulting.

If you have documention or period pictures to show otherwise, please show them here for all to see. We all want to be as informed as possible.

I was reading Elan books 20 years before you owned your car.

I'm not sure which "dude" you were referring to, there seems to be more than one of us who took an early interest in Elans.
The FIA homologataion papers from 27th May 1963 list, amongst other things, a 3 litre alloy radiator.
At least you've given up on telling us your car is a Shapecraft.

OOER ! steady boys. But while we`re being pedantic I keep seeing, here on the forum and increasingly elsewhere, the words "you are" shortened to "your" instead of "you`re". YOU`RE probably thinking...... *&$*&$* .....but maybe expressing YOUR onions accurately is more important than radigator material.
Sad *&$*&$ git Jim
