In most cases they are probably ok provided they aren’t leaking or the piston rod corroded. You could have them tested on a dynamometer but a road test should be enough. The rings around the piston are normally metal like an engine and the rebound valves are spring loaded metal discs. People think they wear out but the internals that do the actual damping seem pretty robust and it’s usually loss of oil that is the problem

Good Evening all,
Ive began work on lottie,
Just to remind everyone, my elan has been in pieces for 30plus years. So every part is laid out on a tables. And ive started building the doors up. Quite challenging when ive never seen them together. But one done so far.
I find myself a bit lost with all these brackets. I can easily tell what the heater matrix is. And i believe top left or for the radiator and below are for the hand brake. But the rest im lost. Ive been looking at parts suppliers for diagrams but not really getting anywhere.
Ive never seen the car together and i haven't seen a running elan for at least 7 years. So if theres anyone around the wareham, dorset area with one id love to poke around.

#13 - horn brackets
#19 - air cleaner cannister bracket (gets mounted to the floor and cannister)
#14 - battery hold down, rear.
#18 - bracket that goes between the front upright body bolt and the 'rocker' for the bonnet. The
attaching brackets are for the radiator mount

The 2 brackets above #6 are the hand brake brackets that mount on the rear calipers.

1. SEAT FIXING BRACKETS, ATTACH TO FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE SEATS.
2. DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A GENUINE SPRINT PART BUT COULD BE A CHASSIS STIFFENER IN ENGINE BAY?
