I sent Gary a message to his personal E mail to try to encourage him back to the forum.

I had got to damn near love the man and his exploits and miss his experience, input and banter.

Me too, he was a rare voice in the wilderness that would speak up and say there is an alternative to "you must spend ?10/15/20K to an engine builder and ?10/15/20K to a bodywork specialist" I really miss the sows ear and whatever the other thread was called, not being able to see them to their conclusion was like losing a child.

Personally, I can`t be doing with trolls just being gratuitously unpleasant. Jeff did us all a great favour in weeding out the likes of Gary Anderson and Twincam.
I have some sympathy with whatever psychological issues they suffer from but don`t need to read abrasive and offensive remarks. Banter? I don`t think so.

Jim, I disagree.
Most of us have dealt with folk's like them over our life. Gary was perhaps a bit quick about getting his hackles up and Twincam man a good heckler but I found much of their banter rather humorous. Better than boredom! And I really miss Gary's knowledge and quick response.

Actually, I rather enjoyed the banter put forth by both Gary and Ed. Being thin skinned as a potato chip can be equally annoying.

Between Gary and Brian's book, they reduced my learning curve on my newly purchased Elan, from a straight vertical line to a manageable curve. Gary's low cost approach to putting Elans back on the road was a thing of beauty. Proving one can have a serviceable Elan without spending $10k on a paint job. Far better to put the car on the road and enjoy the feeling it provides, rather than have a car one is afraid to take out of the garage for fear of getting a scratch. They are just cars......... really fun cars.......... but just cars.

that's how i see it too. these are driving machines and need to get driven, so the only thing we can do is looking for wise or less wise parking spaces - the rest is wear and tear ------------------------- WHICH has to be tecnically absolutely perfect to enjoy properly - THANKS COLIN!! sandy - driven by alpine roads!

Ed Law, aka Twincamman passed away a few months back from a stroke.

By the way, I know Gary personally and he is definitely a fine individual, still doing well, but virtually completely "off the grid" now.

Shame about Ed. He did rub a few up.
I thought Gary was the man. Loved his posts and advice. Helped me out with PM' s.
Inspired me to make my own dash. I am not known for being super thick skinned but never picked up any attitude off him. The Sows ear project was great. Also him converting Cortina gear sticks into Elan ones.

I drove by Ed's house today. Europa in driveway and Bugeye Sprite in garage. No sign of Elan. Nobody was out so I didn't stop. I only met Ed once years ago before I moved to the next town over from him and by then I had sold my Elan.

Back when I bought and restored my Elan, Ed and Gary were frequent posters. Learned a lot and appreciated their contribution to the valuable content on this forum.

Now I'm an infrequent visitor on the forum. My 13 year old son never forgave me for selling the Elan and I hope someday to find a project that we could restore together

I don’t really know Brian but am aware that his wife was very ill with dementia I believe. He looked after her until she died so didn’t have time for forums. I’ll ask Spyder Fan to update properly.

Yes he was a bit of a challenge on the forum. However I visited Ed probably about 10 years ago, and he was a gentleman and a good host while we were there. And made a good cuppa' as well if I recall correctly.

Some people can be great in person, but just not translate well to forums. All in the writing style I suppose.
