AN Hardware

If I had money to throw away I'd find a better use than replacing all fasteners with AN spec. There may be some applications that would benefit but certainly not in the majority of cases on an Elan! I remember reading an article some time ago by Jim Hall of Chaparral fame. They had been experiencing chronic failures on the Chaparral and subsequently found that the AN fasteners they were using were too strong (too stiff as I recall) for the application and cyclic failure resulted. They changed back to Grade 8 and the failures ceased! Just saying.

I understand what your saying in regards to the strength of the AN bolts being to strong. Having done three Lotus formula cars with AN and not witnessing any resultant failures, I am still keen to use them on this Elan. I did sit down and do all the conversion work last evening and get a full list for a spyder chassis equipped car. I will post the final costs involved in the AN hardware. From what I can tell it is not going to be that costly to convert the car to AN.

Thanks
Colin
