Classic car rescue

The rear axle fell off because someone took the bolts out

I just watched the MGB episode on my recorder - I can't believe how much rubbish it was. What a waste of my time. The rear axle fell off not because the bolts had been removed, but because someone had actually cut the spring eyes off. I paused the recording and the leaf springs were lying on the ground with no eyes!. The whole thing is so staged it defies all belief.

As for the car, I'm pretty sure it was a different car at the end. It had the earlier style metal dash, whereas the original car had the horrid plastic dash that afflicted the last cars.

As for their so-called expert valuer, he didn't even attempt to look underneath. Having restored MGBs myself I know how easily a good paint job can hide all sorts of trouble. Any valuer worth anything would insist on looking underneath.

I wonder what sort of audience the program makers think it is aimed at? Anybody with an interest in old cars will see through it immediately, and those without that interest won't bother to watch it at all.

I agree most of them were horrific, but the jet 1 replica they did for Jules Holland was pretty good.
