Car Trailer tying - quick answer needed

ps, the clear cling-film is better to see through than the black, when you are driving. :wink:

Looks smart Terry. Is there much work to do on it? My shoulders used to be too wide to fit into one of the 2 seater elans. Nowadays the shoulder bulk has migrated south somewhat but I did manage to feel comfy last time I was in one. Hope you get it sorted soon.

The plan is to keep the body / paint as it is and run it and have some fun!
Having said that I have to do quite a bit of fibre glass repairs to the inner wings and in the nose. (Botched previous repair)

My bumpers look painted quite well, could they be original? Also wheels are black?

I don't think they were ever painted anything but silver apart from the dandified Sprint set up! I just think that black looks good with a white Elan. I have also fitted clear covers on the front indicators and popped an amber bulb in. Gives a cleaner look.

Black wheels were again on Sprints - I note that your back wheel is silver.

Keep the black bumpers................. :D

Terry, I think that David may have had way too much of the Somerset cider over the years, which could have impaired his judgement and vision........the bumpers have to be silver, of course. But on change of ownership, you do have 6 months grace to rectify the transgression on your car, after which it will be subject to the new confiscation law (Poor Taste and Incorrect Specification Act, Nov. 2011).

My S4 has black wheels, but obviously it will not be coming out until they have been put right.

Black bumpers and silver wheels are mandatory - whatever the body colour......
On it's wheels 003.jpg and
doors and bonnet are optional :roll:

I'm afraid Mark that initially anyway its going to have to be black bumpers / silver wheels , I will submit the relevant Application for exemption of the Poor Taste and Incorrect Specification Act, Nov. 2011 , we like forms in France. Its really because of the infill to the back around the lights.
Perhaps in a few years when SWBO fancies it in Wengewood Blue we will go for silver bumpers ....perhaps another exemption will be required!
Roger I do have doors , although they are a bit wobbly, and a bonnet that needs a bit of fiberglass on the front lip

I know I am very late to this thread, but I wanted to provide another point of view. The most damage from transporting a car on a trailer comes from those vicious tie down ratchet straps that can impose monstrous loads on parts of the car never designed for such stress. Therefore, I find the best thing to do is avoid them altogether and simply chock the wheels with readily available roadside material as shown. The beauty of this system is that the tires which are readily replaceable take all the fore and aft loads while the rails of the trailer are there if side loads become extraordinary.

A 100 mile per hour speed limit is recommended with this securing system.

Good grief, we're back on topic !
Straying off doesn't really matter as the need for a quick answer has long ago been met.
Only posting now because a few days ago I was involved in trailering a 7.

We strapped only the front wheels down and once underway it was interesting to note how well the 7 reacted to the road independently of the trailer.
Just quietly moved up and down with the bumps etc. Very safe and easy tow.
