Edit: seems like I might have got the idea that all "late" Elans changed to fail-safe when I read my John Bolster book back in 1980, bearing in mind the above comments; probably wrong.
I'd always assumed that my Sprint (May 72) had somehow "reverted" at the time of the fire/front-end graft-on job.
