After doing a lot of reading on the internet and talking to quite a few people it looks like it is a 66 S2 SE. The car is not in bad shape considering the age. It has some minor cracking on the front fenders but they should not be too hard to fix. The only issue that I can see on the surface with out completely digging into it is the exhaust manifold. Two of the ears are cracked off and missing. Sounds like a good excuse to get a set of headers. Out side of that I plan to keep it as stock as possible. I guess I will see what else I find as I break it down. I will try and get some good picture this week to post but don?t hold your breath as it is suppose to be quite cold this weekend.

Here in the UK, we are used to cars with framed windows (& roofs), to keep out the cold draughts and (most of) the rain or snow...
Yes, it was VERY WET here last night & today...

That makes sense Matthew. Thanks for the thoughtful explanation.
I can understand that the "snugness" of the later Elans would really make a difference in less than perfect weather. It also explains the greater popularity of +2s in the UK (or so it seems). I like them all but there is something about the Type 26 Elans that appeals to more than just practical considerations. Whatever it is makes one able to put up with wind/water leaks, more rattles.
On the other hand..... in bad weather, I'd probably opt to leave it home and drive something with better protection against the elements.

??????????????????
Perhaps I should have been more specific. What I meant was +2s seem to be more popular in the UK than in the US, not that +2s are more popular than two seater Elans. In any case, I don't know the numbers; it just seems that way to me.
