Hello ,merry men..
Thought I would let you see the special nipple I made up to help acertain the position on a shortened inner cable.This was where I ended up. All adjustment fully back and the tree lever almost fully back & the handbrake caliper levers are on their stops.
I made this nipple up to use as permanent fitting but ended up taking it off and fitting a swaged on. You need to be carefull with the dia of swaged on item as it needs feeding thro' the chassis holes.
I have thought of a few advantages of the clamp on solderless nipple. One is the ease of which you can change the cable. And you can re adjust it anytime, etc. I again tested the 'clamp on' on an old cable to see what it would hold and I have to say I am very surprised at the grip the thing has on the cable. The 'between the ears' thing is now becoming less of an issue and I might re fit it. Due to cable stretch the adjuster is now around 1/3rd used up. At this rate the screw adjustment is going to be used up in no time. I have checked the crimped on one for security. It has not moved. As expected.
What think you guys? Bear in mind The clamping grubs have backed up locking grubs on top. They can't come slack very easy.
A few pic's for you. The 1st one (pictured.. MK1) has now gone to Mk2 spec' with 4 grubs in it. On the Cardinal points and in the middle of a slightly wider 'boss' of the same dia. I machined a tad too much from the one in the pics and almost ran into the drilled and tapped holes. Doh!!. That was the main reason for MK2 to be honest. OOps! Ah Well!!

Hi Guys,
Making up another batch of the clamp on nipples. These have been well used and tested now and a final design has been arrived at. There are a couple of slight differences in the cables and levers (tree) but I ask whoever has asked for them to tell me the answers to a couple of questions. What is the cable diameter and is it coated? What diameter is the hole in the lever (tree again), and I can custom make to suite if need be.
Made now from Bright Mild Steel and using 2 x 4 mm grubs in line. Tested by securing one end of a test cable and levering on the nipple fixed to the other end.. Could not move them. Happy days.
?25.00 gets one sent and a donation goes off to GOSH....
PM me if you have had enough of the way too long cable fitted to your car.. (New ones are right length now Sue tells me.)
