I was looking at getting a Griff, beautiful cars, V8 Soundtrack etc. Not a pre '73 though. I personally don't like the wedges, so TVR is out for a pre-tax car.
If you don't fancy a 'Plus Zero' I would suggest a Seven, although it won't be that great an example for ?8K, they hold their value (or appreciate) very well.
How about;

Or if you can live with a tin roof and don't mind becoming an expert in Italian Electrics (something of a tautology?);

Oh, as we've strayed from the brief a little, another quite good looking tin top;

Is there anything better than looking for your next car on your lunch break? Good Luck.

I discuss this with a friend of mine, he has a Chimera being properly rebuilt, I have the Elan.
We'd like to do a GT40 kit (properly, not a Sierra copy!)
Or a BDA/G engined escort for Rallying.
Going further afield that I'll never do unless someone gives me lots of ????
I'd like a Bently 3L!
I might do a couple or Morgan 3 wheelers if I get chance.
More down to earth a sorted Mini - I'm part way there with a semi sorted mini

That does look interesting, please tell us more?
I assume it's an S2?
What's with the Bonnet, very odd?
Engine?
Cheers

Yup, I think I can see a pair of 40 DCOE's so it must be a pre-crossflow Ford.

gee I have a 711 cross flow engine sitting on the engine stand and a weber twin carb and manifold set up that would do that car just fine --- be still my heart -----a new hood [bonnet] some tender loving care and we can drive the bags right off it --make it faster than shit off a shovel -ed

Hmmm...I reckon it's a S2, probably on the road at the end of November 1962 and was originally Green.
Must have odd manifolds for the Webers though, as they should fit within the bonnet when on a 1500 GT Kent, with just the intakes sticking out. What a great project...wish I could fit into one!

I've owned a TVR Chimaera - the second worst car I've ever owned. I was trading my Esprit Turbo and wanted a second-hand Ferrari 308 GTSi QV. The dealer talked me into a new TVR instead. It gave me nothing but trouble. Fast, but not as fast as they reckoned, and a very big disappointment. I ended up stuck with it, and could only get out of it by trading it on the worst car I've ever owned - a Griffith 5 litre - what a shitbox!
Anyway, I think the Chimaera would make a good project now that they're cheaper (out here), but you'd need to replace the engine, electrics, ventilation system, cooling system, weather sealing, wheels, tyres, brakes, suspension, seatbelts, seats, and that pissy little eye level brake light that the Australian models had. In fact, anything that was done in that sheltered workshop in Blackpool would have to remain suspect.
Fix all that, and put a Chevy LS9 engine in, and it might redeem itself.

Wow, an Aussie rant....haven't heard one for a long time.
Have another beer, Patrick. It will all be OK in the morning.
You'll have other chances to win back the Ashes.

If the selectors had let Andrew Symonds have another beer instead of shipping him home, we might have kept the ashes!
I think there's some rugby to be played before the next ashes...

See http://classiccar.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=1058 for more on Dusty's 7. What was that about not coveting thy neighbour's goods?
